Intermediate Footballers Suffer First Championship Defeat

Having already secured their Semi-Final position, our Intermediate footballers suffered their first Championship defeat last Saturday evening when they went down to Galbally in Kilbready on a scoreline of 2-08 to 0-7. Rathkeale can have no complaints as Galbally looked the hungrier team on the night, granted Galbally had a lot more to play for to ensure they secured the second spot behind Rathkeale.

Rathkeale now await their Semi-Final opposition, which will be played on the weekend ending October 7th. Best of luck to the team and management with their preparations.

Minor Footballers Bow Out in Exciting Semi-Final

Our Minor Footballers’ season unfortunately came to an end last Tuesday night when they bowed out against Fr Caseys in Mick Neville Park. With appalling weather conditions, the first half proved to be a tough encounter with slippy underfoot and handling conditions. Rathkeale entered the interval leading by scoreline of 1-04 to 0-05. Fr Caseys dominated large periods of the second half however it was Rathkeale that finished the stronger and forced extra with some late points to finish on a score line of 1-08 to 0-11. In fact they could have snatched victory only for the width of the goal post to deny them on three occasions throughout the game. Fr Caseys dominated the extra time period and found the net in the second period of extra time under torrential rain. Rathkeale battled back but ran out of time, final score on the night was Fr Caseys 1-13, Rathkeale 1-11. So near and yet so far, credit to Rathkeale who enjoyed a very competitive year again, let’s hope our year will come at this grade. Credit to the players and management on their dedication throughout the year and best of luck to Fr Casey in the final.
