Health and Wellbeing

Killeedy GAA Health and Wellbeing start their journey to become a Healthy Club Project, we are looking for the wider community and club members to help and participate in the next 18 months to help make the community of Killeedy a healthier place to live.

At present we have a few initiatives ongoing, the Older adults which initially started as an exercise programme run by Limerick Sports Partnership. That has stopped for the moment but members of that group continue to meet each week for a walk and a chat.

The second initiative at present is the Tuesday / Thursdays Walking, this is a casual walking group, with no pressure on anyone, everyone can go at their own pace. The idea was to have a starting point / time for people who have an interest in walking but would like some company also.

Killeedy GAA Health and Wellbeing are on Facebook and Twitter which we belive is an excellent method of getting information the wider community.  Some of the information shared includes local walks, runs and cycles including charity events. Information in relation to mental wellbeing, healthy eating to name but a few.

This process of becoming a Healthy Club Project is an opportunity for people in the community, not just GAA people to get involved who may have expertise is an area of health and wellbeing.

Over the next 18 months we will be targeting 2 areas of priority and hope to achieve our goals and get a stamp of approval. In doing so our community will get recognition and a better opportunity to get grants/ funding.

This will benefit everyone in the Community.

We all know the issues, problems and pressures facing the young people in todays world but there are also scope in the process of Healthy Club Project to be more inclusive of all the people of all ages in our community, such as Older Adults and parents of school going children.

Over the next few weeks we will be recruiting 2-3 more people onto the committee in order to brainstorm ideas. We looking forward to making Killeedy a healthier place to enjoy.
