Leitrim's Clement Cunniffe in action for Ireland

Carrick and Leitrim hurler Clement Cunniffe admits that training over the winter comes much easier when you are preparing for an All-Ireland club semi-final.

Cunniffe put in a man of the match performance last weekend to help Carrick become the first ever hurling club from Leitrim to win a provincial title as they beat Galway side Ballygar in the Connacht club JHC final.

The 35-year-old has been Leitrim’s best known hurler for many years now and his 1-06 helped his side to victory last Saturday afternoon.

Cunniffe admitted to the Leitrim Observer that days like last weekend make it all worthwhile as he looks forward to a winter of training.

“It is brilliant, I never dreamt of even being in a Connacht final, never mind looking towards an All-Ireland semi-final so we will cherish this win,” said Cunniffe.

“We’ll put our heads down in the coming weeks and focus on the All-Ireland series, we’re looking forward to it.”
