Quirke seeks consolidation

Laois manager Michael Quirke is hoping for a good league campaign

Retaining their FL2 status is the aim for new Laois manager Michael Quirke.

Having won back to back promotions in the last two years, the O’Moore County are now where they feel they should be and Quirke is keen for them to remain there.

FL2 is set to be very competitive as Laois open their campaign with a clash against Roscommon at Dr Hyde Park on Sunday afternoon.

Quirke knows that every point picked up will be hard earned, but the former Kerry footballer is confident that they can retain their place there.

“I think staying in the Division is going to be a perfectly realistic prospect. It is going to be very difficult as it is going to be for every team, but I am confident we are going to get over the line,” said Quirke.

“The league can be funny. It’s the end of January and outside there the place is frozen. You don’t know what sort of conditions you are going to find. Anything can happen in these games and I believe we have enough quality footballers that if everything goes our way we’ll be more than competitive in every game, and after that you need a bit of luck.”
