Dublin and Westmeath chalked up their second wins in the Walsh Cup this afternoon.

At Parnell Park, three first goals from Eamonn Dillon (two) and Donal Burke paved the way for Dublin's 3-20 to 0-18 victory over Carlow. Mattie Kenny's men led by 3-8 to 0-12 at the interval before extending their advantage after the restart to end Carlow's involvement in the pre-season competition.

Westmeath avenged last summer's Joe McDonagh Cup final defeat to Laois with a 2-17 to 1-12 win in Borris-in-Ossory.

Joey Boyle's goal at the end of the first half helped Shane O'Brien's charges to a 1-8 to 0-7 lead at the break before they opened up a seven-point advantage in the third quarter. Eoin Gaughan's 57th minute goal narrowed the gap for an experimental home side, but a late Darragh Clinton major settled it. Veteran Derek McNicholas top-scored for the winners with 0-10.

Dublin, by virtue of a superior scoring difference, are in pole position to reach next Sunday's semi-final against holders Galway ahead of their final group game against Laois in midweek, with Wexford and Kilkenny facing off in the other penultimate round tie.
