Portlaoise have a lot to offer the Laois and Leinster club SFC yet, according to their manager Niall Rigney.

Their 2019 campaign was ended at the semi-final stage of the Leinster club SFC last weekend, when Carlow’s Eire Og recorded a comfortable win over the Laois kingpins.

However, Rigney stressed to the Leinster Express that they have enough new talent coming through for them to compete at the same level next year.

“The time to freshen things up is when you’re winning and I said about it this year, we got Gary Saunders into it last summer, he has two championships won and he’s 19,” said Rigney.

“We’d Damon Larkin this year at 18, Ronan McEvoy, Jason Maher and Mikey Dowling. There are five players who played in the championship this year and that’s the time to be keeping things fresh.

“It helps the likes of Bruno and those lads too. These lads will be back again, and they know they have more to bring to the table.”
