Graigue-Ballycallan inflicted an eight-point defeat on Portlaoise in Saturday’s Leinster Club IHC final but victorious captain Darragh Egan insists they were made to work hard by the O’Moore County men.
“We knew what to expect from Portlaoise,” defender Egan told the Irish Independent following their 2-17 to 0-15 success at Nowlan Park.
“They are a great team with outstanding players. They are a dual club and the players have a great level of fitness.
“Thankfully, we got over the line. I don’t think the scoreline was a fair reflection of things. Our late goal put daylight between us, but it was nip-and-tuck the whole way.”
