On Sunday, August 25 at Croke Park, a very special exhibition game was played.
The Gaelic4Mothers&Others teams from Sheriff Street and Ballybough in Dublin had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to grace the hallowed turf, at half-time during the TG4 All-Ireland Ladies SFC semi-final between Dublin and Cork.
Dublin footballer Michael Darragh Macauley is a programme officer with Dublin NEIC, a regeneration project for Dublin's North East inner city, and he joined the teams on their special day, along with former Dublin Ladies Football star Niamh McEvoy.
“They’re like no other bunch that I’ve ever worked with, in any walk of life. They’re honest, they’re genuine, they’ll always put a smile on your face, no matter what’s going on," smiled Macauley, who's preparing for Sunday's All-Ireland SFC Final against Kerry at Croke Park.
