Aisling Sheridan (Cavan), Aisling McCarthy (Tipperary), Muireann Atkinson (Monaghan) and Yvonne McMonagle (Donegal) are among seven ladies footballers selected for the Crosscoders International Rookie Camp in Melbourne.

Eleven Irish women, including seven ladies footballers and one camogie player, have been selected for the Crosscoders International Rookie Camp in Melbourne which takes place in Melbourne later this week.

AFL Women's clubs will be attending the trial with professional rookie contracts on offer. Cora Staunton made a huge impression with the Great Western Sydney Giants earlier this year and will be joined next season by Mayo team-mate Sarah Rowe, who has signed for Collingwood.

The ladies footballers who will be attending are Aisling Considine (Clare), Aisling Sheridan (Cavan), Aisling Curley (Kildare), Aisling McCarthy (Tipperary), Eimear Gallagher (Donegal), Fiadhna Tangney (Kerry), Muireann Atkinson (Monaghan) and Yvonne McMonagle (Donegal). Completing the Irish contingent will be Tipperary camogie player Mary Ryan, Amanda Maginn (Ulster Rugby) and Mairead Coyne (Connacht Rugby / Ireland).

"It is extremely exciting for the players, with some potential life-changing opportunities ahead, and a once in a lifetime experience in terms of the camp itself," said Mike Currane, who is an Official Ambassador for Crosscoders and will take the Irish group out to Melbourne on Thursday evening.

"I am thrilled that this many Irish girls have been selected and it is a sign of the level of talent that we have here in Ireland."
