Peter Leahy after Westmeath ladies' All-Ireland IFC victory in 2011

Peter Leahy will take charge of the Mayo ladies senior football team next season.

Leahy was drafted in as coach in the middle of the Westerners' 2017 championship campaign which saw them reaching the All-Ireland final in September - the county's first in over a decade.

Dublin's 4-11 to 0-11 victory at Croke Park saw manager Frank Browne step down after three years in charge and Mayo LGFA have today confirmed that Leahy, who co-managed Westmeath to All-Ireland intermediate success in 2011, will succeed the Wexford native.

Leahy's managerial background also includes a stint with Westmeath's minor footballers last year and he was part of Michael Ryan's backroom with the Lake County's senior hurlers in 2015.
