Ballyhale Shamrocks are overwhelming favourites to defend their Leinster club SHC title this weekend, but manager Henry Shefflin believes that it will take a huge effort to do so.

The Kilkenny, Leinster and All-Ireland club champions are unbackable at 1/14 to retain their provincial title against first time finalists St Mullins.

Shefflin points out to the Kilkenny People that the two best teams in the province are in the final and both will be eager to win.

Ballyhale must do so without the likes of Richie Reid, Paddy Mullen and Brian Butler, while Adrian Mullen should play some part in the game, having recovered from injury.

“St Mullins are there on merit. The two best teams in Leinster right now are preparing for the final. That is the simple story about the game,” said Shefflin.

He added: “We have a lot of work and planning going on. It is a test of our panel now. We are pushing the panel to see who will step up, who will take jerseys. There is pushing among the subs too to see who might come on.”
