Today's Kilkenny SHC quarter-final between Ballyhale Shamrocks and Clara has been postponed after a Ballyhale player died in a car accident last night.

The young hurler, who has been named locally as Eugene Aylward, passed away after the car he was driving hit a wall between Mullinavat and Ballyhale shortly after midnight. He had been returning home from the cinema.

A woman in her thirties, who was the only passenger in the vehicle, was seriously injured and taken to University Hospital Waterford. The scene of the accident has been closed off to allow for a Garda forensic investigation and diversions are in place.

As people will have heard in news bulletins there was a tragic accident in Ballyhale last night, involving a member of our @BallyhaleGAA Shamrocks club.
As a result and as a mark of respect to the family concerned all Shamrocks matches due to have been played this weekend are off
