The return of key duo Richie Hogan and Ger Aylward to full fitness was one of the most pleasing aspects of the inaugural Wild Geese Trophy match in Sydney for Kilkenny manager Brian Cody.

The Cats lost to Galway after a free-taking competition, but Cody could take consolation from the performances of Hogan and Aylward who scored 0-11 and 2-0 respectively after putting their injury problems behind them.

"Richie is free from injury at the moment so obviously the hope would be that he'll continue to be free from injury and be able to keep things going," Cody was quoted as saying in the Irish Examiner.

"Ger has had a tough time with injuries for the last few years and, again, it's heartening for himself to be able to get through that. To have 40 minutes in a game like that and come away with a nice few scores is good for him."
