A groin injury sustained during yesterday's Leinster SHC final replay is threatening Walter Walsh's participation in Kilkenny's All-Ireland SHC quarter-final against Limerick next weekend.

The powerful Tullogher-Rosbercon forward was forced to retire after just 17 minutes of the 3-15 to 1-28 defeat in Thurles and Brian Cody admitted afterwards that he is a major doubt for next weekend's do-or-die clash.

"A groin injury puts him under major pressure for next weekend. If he is available he is available. If not, he is not. That is the reality of the situation," the Kilkenny manager said.

Cody hinted that Richie Hogan and Colin Fennelly could start against the Treaty County after making a big impact following their half-time introductions.

"I think they are ready to play, absolutely. It is a question of seeing how they recover after today and that. They have put in a huge amount of work to get to this level. We will look at every possibility and every option before next weekend," he added.
