Draw 2015

(Oldest Posts First)

Horrible draw for us. Laois are resurgent, then if we beat them; the Dubs. Back in the qualifiers by July.

We'll get an idea how Laois are in the league, if not in the O'Byrne Cup. We seem to go for a couple of years without meeting them and then met them two or three times in a season.

Are they any more resurgent than they were under McNulty before we went on to hammer them a few years ago?

I suppose the league game against them in Portlaois at the end of March might give us a clearer indication of things but realistically I'd be expecting us to lose, probably heavily to the Dubs in the semi final.

The only plus is the fact that the A sides of the draw seem to be a bit handier when it comes to potential qualifier opponents.

Where does it list the A and B sides for the qualifiers?

Laois would be a useful outfit if they got everyone committed but they have been a bit of a shambles ever since Micko departed. A lot of the best footballers in Laois don't bother with the county side at all. Portlaoise have sparse representation for a team that has been utterly dominant in the championship.

I am actually happy enough with the draw. Better off getting a tough starter and we would have to play Dublin no matter what, at some stage. Don't think we should be writing the team off in October, they know the task ahead and Dublin are not unbeatable. Hope the players have more belief in themselves than some of our supporters do.

So another Dubs v Meath leinster final with a comfortable dubs win but it is what it is. Not much between Kildare/Laois Meath but meath no 2. Similar year to this year will develop i expect. Laois will be our big game and the goal will be to get past them and try put in a performance against the dubs before making a stab at a qualifier run and give another effort at seeing if we have what it takes to get past a big team.

Hopefully we have a good league and come into June injury free to what will be an interesting game against Laois.

I agree St.Conleth. If we have any aspiration we can't be hoping for this or that favourable draw. We will get the chance to play Laois in the League beforehand.I would have no fear of Laois.

Who cares about the rest of the summer? Let's just make sure we put those rednecks away. It's bad enough listening to Meath after the two losses but a loss to Laois would really be horrible. The Larries and Athy lads will be well up for it anyway! As for the Dubs, anything would be a bonus. Nothing to lose. But if I was Ryan I'd hold off on studying the tape of the Donegal semi-final until we get by dixie land.

switec, surely Laois will be easy cos we always beat them ? in the same way we never beat Galway so we can't expect to beat them....
(joke by the way !)

it is what it is I guess. Maybe if the Dubs had won the All Ireland again they might have slacked off but I think they'll be even stronger next year after the Donegal loss.

kildare kelly, yeah i think you're right, the Dubs will be even stronger next year. My worry about Laois is that when I saw them play the Dubs in the first round this year in croker they played well, Dubs eventually steamrolled them but i was looking at that game and thinking I am not sure if kildare would give the Dubs as good a game, would we go in leading at half time? Laois are not great but do you have to be great to beat kildare? If we got promotion we would come in to the laois game as favourites and that might be a bit misleading. It's a big game, if we lose we are at nothing in leinster and we'll have to listen to laois crowing all summer! So its a pressure game for sure!

Agreed. I'd rather lose to anyone else other than Laois, can't bear listening to them !

It's not. There are no Sarsfields or Moorefield players who are good enough who don't want to join the county panel. McCormack, Cahillane, Rodgers and others in Laois are a different story.

Have to say lads i'm really looking forward to the league next year.
Westmeath
Kildare
Laois
Meath

4 decent closely matched Leinster teams all doing battle. Leinster 2015 is a bit meh because nobody really believes they can beat Dublin making every other match feel pointless.

D2 will be competitive but tough to get out of. Leinster is a given I am afraid. I think the Dubs will re focus on the big prize and Leinster will be part of that plan.

Meath got home draw in Leinster for 1st time in 20 years. I read only Kildare have now gone longer. What a joke is all I can say!
