Pádraig Fogarty's point against Down : The Truth

(Oldest Posts First)

"Kildare were fortunate that Pádraig Fogarty's effort, which looked clearly wide, was signalled as a point when the game was in the melting pot."

The text above has appeared in all the match reports I've seen. To to clear it up for everyone, I was standing right behind the posts and talking to a few Down supporters at the time and we all agreed it was straight down the middle, no question of it being wide.

Karma for Smith's point that was waved wide in 2010.

Whatever about the point that may or may not have gone over yesterday against Down Beir......I will never forgot the point that Smith scored that day that was waved wide. It split the posts. I knew it wasn't going to be our day!!

Have to say Moose from the stand it certainly looked wide so can understand McCartan's protests. Glad to hear it was actually a point.

what does it matter, we won by 10 not 1.

I umpired the county final once and gave a point from which where I was standing, in perfect position in line with the kicker 5 metres behind the posts, was well inside the post. The linesman and people who I knew in the main stand all told me I got it wrong but I maintain I did not.

There's a reason we put umpires behind the goals and not in the stand or on the sidelines or in the press box.

My God we win a game by 10 points and you're debating a point that wasn't. We outclassed and outplayed them. 1-18 to 0-11 scoreline proves that.
