What is our view on the ladies this year ?

Going well enough in the league so far it seems. Narrow defeat away to Kerry last weekend when a win would definitely have seen them in with a shot at promotion, left needing to win their final two games and hope that Kerry and Galway drop points somewhere (think they play each other in the last round?). Win against Westmeath this weekend and they'll give themselves an outside chance of going back up to the top division.

Good win against Laois in the championship last year, hopefully they can go a bit further this year.

Ladies football is getting bigger all the time in Kildare, their County teams are improving all the time, the u/14's beat Dublin for the first time, the minors are going well and the senior team is getting their. Was at the Féile finals on Sunday in Hawfield, the standard was excellent with a great final between 2 good teams Monasterevin (winners) and Naas.

Even were Kildare to lose their last 2 games they could only miss out on a semi place were Fermanagh to beat Galway & Cavan.

Cavan could with 2 wins finish level with Kildare but Kildare won the head to head. It would be a big upset if Cavan fail to win the last game v Fer.

The Westmeath game will be close but the last game is v Waterford who have not won any games so its one Kildare should win especially as its a Home game.

A win v Westmeath on Sunday would solve all the permutations and ensure a semi-final. Most likely it would be v Kerry or Galway and would be a serious hurdle. For now a win in one of the remaining games will do ( in both would be even better as it would mean a second or third placing & avoid the table toppers in the semi !!!)

There is a big panel with loads of players getting game time so things are looking brighter than they were this time last year.

The win v Dub by the Under 14 was massive although Meath are the team to beat ( they won Leinster ( & All Ireland??) last year & also beat Dublin recently) but this group were able to beat everybody at Under 12 so they dont have to fear any team.

Heard there was a huge turn-out for the Under 12 Trials, another good sign.

There are loads of new mentors which is also promising and new winners not just the same-old dominating everything.

Kelf,

Didn't know there was semi finals to be honest, thought it followed the same format as the men's with the top two into a final. Looks a bit more promising alright with the top four entering the playoffs, but like you said it'll still come down to seedings against Galway or Kerry. It would be a tough match against either but they've already shown they're good enough after drawing with Galway (away I think?) and running Kerry close.

The underage structures certainly seem to be improving too, credit to all involved with that, hopefully it continues and it gives the seniors something to build from over the next few years.

Seniors are trying out some good younger girls off the minor team. Future is starting to look up a small bit

Hard luck to the ladies today, beaten by Galway by a single point in the league semi final.

Hopefully with some of the promising results and work being done at underage level, they can go on and put in some good performances in the championship later in the year.

Any word on what the ladies team is like for today's match against Dublin?

The girls were probably disappointed with how the league went, losing to Galway in the semi but there was quite a few young players introduced along the way, hopefully give a good account of themselves today anyways against a strong Dublin team. Paddy Power has the match listed for tomorrow if anybody fancies taking a punt.

Hard luck to the ladies team today, heartbreaking defeat to Clare after extra time.

Didn't see all of it but Holton, Gately and Moolick looked really impressive and got some great scores.

Thought refcam might have offered up a few more close up shots but that's a different matter altogether...

Management were a Joke...Dropping Aisling Savage who is the best defender in the county were mental. She was obviously fustrated
on the line and it showed when they brought her on...Too open through out the field and played the game like it was a training game
never decided to tighten up and stop Clare and just mark tightly. Savage is a very experienced player and I know all the girls would
have felt more confident if she was playing from the start as she is a born leader and great hard defender.
Aishling Holton and Aine Gately both deserve better as they are quality and showed that again yesterday.
Timmons needs to just win the ball and lay it off.
Summary: Every body was too confident and took Clare for granted....Sounds familiar with all Kildare teams of recent years

A big thank you to all the Kildare Ladies this year who provides us with some fantastic games and a few poor ones too!..What a game on Saturday in Carrick , some fabulous moves, scores , catching & defending..to kick 1-21 out of 1-22 from play was brilliant..What a pity, like the league semi final v Galway , we went down by a point..16 wides and several missed goal chances did cost us the game , some very dubious refereeing decisions but sure whats new there!!..The girls put in a huge effort and gave us a wonderful Fashion show too....Of the panel of 30, 15 girls will not be available next year due to emigration and retirements but you did your county proud and you will always be remembered..Its now up to the younger girls to fly the flag in Division 2 next year where we will have big battles against Galway, Clare, Meath, Westmeath, Cavan, Fermanagh all over again!!!

Balyna playing Larries toady in the Ladies final, I'd imagine Balyna are favourites after winning the league earlier in the year.

Surprised the game wasn't rescheduled though due to the camogie final next weekend.
