Liam Mileys thoughts on Kildare

(Oldest Posts First)

Just read what Liam Miley thinks of the present Kildare set up what do you think of his thoughts on the panel, McGeeney etc. Just thought Id see what everyone thinks as the 2013 championship games was announced during the week.

Might take him seriously if he gave us some names.

If he doesn't think players are good enough to be on the panel, name them and give a reason why he doesn't rate them.

If he thinks there's better players out there in the county not on the panel, name them and give a reason why he thinks they deserve a chance.

Fair enough point regarding players not getting enough game time with their clubs but that's hardly a revelation at this stage, nothing we didn't know already.

Maybe he felt that it was unfair to name names. I can see why he didn't want to name the players on the panel that he doesn't rate, but he could and should have named the players he thinks should be there

At least he is consistent. I remember him dismissing many of the players on the 91 league final team as not being good enough also. He didnt name any players back then either!

Mr. Miley doesn't have the comfort blanket of anonymity like us, who would ye lads consider not good enough or like to see off the team?

There may well be players who could or should be given a chance. But maybe some of them have been approached and they are not prepared to put in the huge ammount of work that the present panel have put in over the last number of years. Is it better to have players with greater ability who are not prepared to put it in the effort or players possibly with less ability who are prepared to do the work?

Players he might be referring could be James Kavanagh and Eoin O'Flatherty in the forwards. For me and ive heard a lot of people say it but O'Flaherty does not do enough or score enough from general play, considering he is the link man at centre forward in a lot of the game. Kildare backs I thought work more of a unit than their forward line, so its hard to know who he is on about here.

Eoin O'Flaherty scored ten points in Carbury's semi-final defeat of county champions Athy this evening. Ft. Carbury 0-15 Athy 0-12.

Thats at club level, different standard inter-county level. I say he got 8 of the ten from frees, anyone confirm the breakdown of his ten points?

think miley is right in saying we won't do much next year but probably wrong saying there are better footballers playing club scene not on the panel--not sure the club scene proves this--kildare to lose to dublin, get a run in the qualifiers but lose to a big team is the likely way 2013 will go but many have it worse so i wouldnt complain too much.

Well if there is better footballers at club scene why doesnt he name them? a lot easier to name them than the lads he thinks isnt cutting it.
club v county thing god I hope the current panel under Mc Geeney do win the delaney next year would love to know what he would come out and say then.

Look at the top scorers in the club championships this year and pick out how many "gems" we are missing. Any half decent footballer sticks out a mile in Kildare because of the mediocre standard of Kildare football. Johnston kept Kevin's up on his own. Flats kicked 10 of Carbury's scores.

There is no talent to be unearthed, but what can be done is for McGeeney to sort out the centre half back position at long last as we have been playing without one since 2003. Teams can run up the middle of us at will.

Why not give Gary white a shot at centre back and give him time in the O'byrne cup to adjust.

Tommy Moo should be playing Sigerson this year.

Will be interesting to see how he measures up.

Saw him play halfback against UCD in the quarter final anyways and he did fairly well, pretty sure he played in the rest of their games too.

Think Brophy and Hurley were named on the team of the year for it, be nice to see Brophy get a run next year at some stage to see what he can do, Hurley will more than likely be in Oz by then, best of luck to him.

The only game time I remember Tommy getting was against Tyrone in the opening league match, taken off after 15 minutes or so and didn't feature for the rest of the year. Hard to know what his best position would be though.
