Davy Burke admitted after Sarsfields' Kildare SFC final replay victory that stopping arch-rivals Moorefield from achieving a first three-in-a-row was a huge motivation for their senior players.

The 31-year-old Confey clubman, who took over Sarsfields after guiding the Kildare U20s to All-Ireland glory last year and will manage the Wicklow senior footballers in 2020, said 'The Sash' were hellbent on ensuring that their Newbridge rivals didn't become the first club to complete the three-in-a-row since Sarsfields did it nearly 70 years ago.

"It really opened my eyes to rivalries and what they are," Burke told the Irish Independent.

"I'm delighted for them. The likes of Darragh Ryan, 'man of the match' there, he's a top drawer footballer but (preventing) three-in-a-row wouldn't, I'd say, have a huge meaning to him yet. But it's the older boys, the 30-year-olds, they will cling on to that, that 1950s win, is so important for them."
