Clann na nGael (Meath), Naomh Brid (Carlow) and Clonguish Gaels (Longford) advance.

There were wins for Clann na nGael (Meath), Naomh Brid (Carlow) and Clonguish Gaels (Longford) in the opening round of the Leinster club junior hurling championship this afternoon.

In Trim, Clann na nGael defeated Kildare intermediate finalists Maynooth on a 4-17 to 1-10 scoreline to set up a quarter-final meeting with Westmeath side Cullion in two weeks' time.

Naomh Brid were too strong for Louth's Naomh Moninne at McGrath Park in Bagenalstown where it finished 3-14 to 1-11, while Longford senior champions Clonguish Gaels beat Wicklow's Barndarrig by 5-11 to 2-6, with all seven goals coming in the first-half at Pearse Park.

In the other round 1 clash, Clara (Offaly) were forced to concede a walkover to Dublin champions Fingallians who will face Kilkenny opposition in the quarter-final.
