Check out who made our team of the week from the round 3 football qualifier games that were played on Saturday...
1. Paddy Dunican (Offaly)
Offaly bowed out of the championship in O’Moore Park on Saturday but no finger of blame can be pointed in the direction of their netminder.
2. Denis Booth (Laois)
Booth was the standout defender as John Sugrue’s side booked their place in round 4 of the qualifiers.
3. Brendan Donaghy (Armagh)
Deployed as a sweeper in Castlebar, Donaghy’s smart positioning thwarted Mayo on a number of occasions.
4. Keith Higgins (Mayo)
Mayo’s defending left a lot to be desired at times in Castlebar but Higgins & Co came good in the end to advance to a mouth-watering round 4 clash with Galway.
5. Kieran Martin (Westmeath)
Captain Martin found the target with 0-6 (three from play) against Clare but the curtain came down on the Lake County’s participation in Championship 2019.
6. Colm Boyle (Mayo)
Boyle and Mayo were forced to dig deep into their reservoir of experience to eke out a minimum margin victory over the Orchard County.
7. Frank Burns (Tyrone)
Tyrone issued a statement of intent in Newbridge on Saturday and Burns underlined his worth to their cause with another fine individual display.
8. Gary Brennan (Clare)
At a time when primary possession was vital, Clare’s talisman quite literally rose to the occasion with two spectacular catches late on in Cusack Park.
9. Kevin Feely (Kildare)
Along with Fergal Conway, Feely did his best to get Kildare motoring against Tyrone but he couldn’t prevent his team from slipping to a 10-point defeat.
10. Mattie Donnelly (Tyrone)
Tyrone dictated the terms in Newbridge and their captain – who raised three white flags – posed plenty of problems for the Lilywhites.
11. Donie Kingston (Laois)
The Kingston brothers contributed a combined total of 0-10 as Laois finished with five points to spare over the Faithful County.
12. Jamie Malone (Clare)
Three first-half points from the industrious half-forward helped to lay the foundations for Clare’s 1-13 to 0-15 victory over Westmeath.
13. Peter Harte (Tyrone)
Harte’s constant probing was key to unlocking the Kildare defence and the Errigal Ciaran clubman took the scoring honours with 0-7 (four from play).
14. Jamie Clarke (Armagh)
Mayo will be glad to see the back of Clarke after he scored three points from play against them while he was also involved in the build-up to Rian O’Neill’s goal.
15. Darren Coen (Mayo)
At the opposite end of the field, Coen caught the eye when sending over four valuable points for James Horan’s side.
