Performance disappoints Moore

Mullingar Shamrocks captain Eddie Moore lifts the Flanagan Cup (Westmeath SFC).

Mullingar Shamrocks manager Ned Moore admits he was bitterly disappointed by his side’s performance against Moorefield in the Leinster club SFC last Sunday.

The Kildare side dominated from start to finish with two first half Adam Tyrrell goals setting them on the road to victory.

Shamrocks were chasing the game from early on and Moore admitted to the Westmeath Independent that they never reached the level of their opponents.

“We just didn’t get to where we thought we would get,” stated Moore. “Moorefield are a very experienced outfit, very well coached, very well set up. Having said all that a couple of lapses in the first half cost us. The two goals came so quickly and, after that, we had to chase the game and chasing a game against a team like that, which turned us over more times than I can count, made it a very hard day for us.”

Moore added that overall it had been a huge year for the club as they came from not even being considered for the county title to winning it.

“At the start of the year, we were on the floor, but we knew that we were better than our performances over the last couple of years suggested. We needed to get our club back up and running again, to give the young kids in our club something to brag about and to go round with smiles on their faces and be proud to wear the Shamrocks’ colours.”
