Cork manager Ronan McCarthy manager gleaned no consolation from his team’s battling display against Kerry in this evening’s Munster SFC decider.

The Rebels pushed the hot favourites all the way but, ultimately, came out on the wrong side of the 1-19 to 3-10 result.

“There’s no moral victory, the players are disappointed inside,” McCarthy said to RTE in his post-match interview.

“We came to win the game and we haven’t done that. We’ll have regrets when we look back at it. Certainly we played with great spirit. We went seven points down at the start of the game. Obviously gave them a lead, actually we never led from there.

“So look, there’s no moral victory here, we came to win the game and we haven’t done that. That’s the way it is.”

McCarthy will be looking for a more favourable outcome for his team when they enter the qualifiers in round 4.

“We have to make sure that we up our performance again when we come to the qualifiers but look, it’s disappointment tonight.”
