Cork manager Ronan McCarthy feels that they have turned a corner this year.

In many people’s eyes, Saturday’s Munster SFC final against old rivals Kerry is a foregone conclusion with the Kingdom getting the nod from the masses.

The Rebels had a mixed league campaign and are without three key players Sean Powter, Kevin Crowley and Sam Ryan for the provincial decider at Pairc Ui Chaoimh.

However, the Cork manager remains optimistic and speaking to the Kerryman revealed that the county are back heading in the right direction.

“You look at the indicators, and the indicators are the team is going in a good direction, certainly since the latter stages of the league. From my time in charge, confidence can go up very quickly and down very quickly. It is something that I cannot spend too much time focusing on,” said McCarthy.

“The challenge games we’ve played and the championship game, we’ve been consistent, which maybe is something that we haven’t been for a number of years, but until the team goes out and does it on the big day – and there is no bigger day than the Munster final against Kerry – that question mark will be there. There is only one way to answer that.”
