"Colm just wants the team to win"

Dr Crokes ace Micheál Burns says Colm Cooper is only focussed on the team winning and not on being confined to a bench role with the Kerry champions.

The 35-year-old Cooper came on as a 42nd minute substitute in Crokes’ emphatic victory over St Finbarrs (Cork), hitting 0-3 and setting up Burns for his team’s fourth goal.

The eight-time All Star is expected to be among the substitutes again when Crokes take on Miltown-Malbay of Clare in Sunday week’s Munster club SFC final and Burns says it’s a credit to the Kingdom legend who remains focussed on “ the team coming first”.

“Colm just wants the team to win,” he told GAA.ie. “He’s done it all in the game. He’s won it all. He’s been there, done that. For a fella who’s not getting his place, he could easily kind of walk away and say, ‘I’ve done enough for this team’, but no, he’s still driving it on.

“When I wasn’t playing in 2017, I was younger and I mightn’t have reacted maybe the best at times. But then, you look at Colm and the way he’s reacted and it would make you feel bad about how you reacted yourself when you see someone like that.

“He’s just pure focussed on the team winning and the team coming first and that’s it.”
