Kerry's Colm Cooper

Fine Gael have failed in their attempts to encourage Colm ‘Gooch’ Cooper to contest the next General Election.

The Kerry GAA legend, who works as a business development manager with AIB, boasts strong ties with the party as his late father, Michael, was a former chairman of the local party branch in Killarney.

Fine Gael have long been courting the five-times All-Ireland winner as a potential running mate for sports minister Brendan Griffin in Kerry’s five-seater constituency but, according to The Sunday Business Post, the 35-year-old has informed them that he is not interested with Griffin later confirming to Radio Kerry that he would have liked to have had the former Kerry star as a running mate.
