Kerry hurler Tom Murnane has been handed a 48-week proposed ban arising from an incident which marred the end of the recent Kerry SHC final between Lixnaw and Kilmoyley.

The suspension was proposed by the Kerry CCC and could spell the end of Murnane's inter-county career, which spans over a decade. According to Kerry's Eye, the report of All-Ireland final referee Fergal Horgan was central to the decision.

Horgan was allegedly assaulted and required a Garda escort from the Austin Stack Park pitch after sounding his final whistle after Lixnaw goalkeeper Martin Stackpoole saved an injury-time penalty from Daniel Collins to deny Kilmoyley the win. The rebound was finished to the net, but Horgan had indicated before the penalty was taken that it would be the last puck of the game.
