The Galway SHC final will be a repeat of last year's decider after St Thomas' and Liam Mellows accounted for Turloughmore and Cappataggle in yesterday's semi-final double-header at Kenny Park, Athenry.

Holders St Thomas' never looked back after Brendan Farrell and Conor Cooney (penalty) scored goals in the opening 10 minutes. Conor Walsh and Jamie Holland replied with points for Turloughmore who trailed by 0-8 to 2-8 at half-time.Turloughmore's task became even more difficult when Oisín Flannery grabbed St Thomas' third goal at the start of the second half, but the challengers refused to accept defeat.

Substitute Ronan Badger pulled back a goal and then missed a penalty as St Thomas' ran out 3-14 to 1-15 winners.

In the first semi-final, Louis Mulqueen - who has been linked with the vacant Galway senior hurling manager's position - led Liam Mellows to their third successive county final following a 2-21 to 1-21 victory over Cappataggle.

Tadhg Haran posted 0-13, including 0-3 from play, as they denied Cappy their first final appearance. An own goal from Mellows corner back Stephen Barrett helped Cappataggle to a 1-4 to 0-1 lead after seven minutes, but the city side were level by the 13th minute thanks to a Conor Kavanagh goal.

The winners held a slender 1-11 to 1-10 advantage at the break and surged three points ahead after the restart, only for Cappataggle to regain parity five minutes later. Haran edged Mellows back in front before Kavanagh raised his second green flag three minutes from time to seal the win.
