2017 champions Liam Mellows will face 2016 winners St Thomas' in this year's Galway SHC final.

The last two holders of the Tom Callanan Cup won their semi-finals against Cappataggle and Sarsfields respectively at Kenny Park yesterday.

Liam Mellows, who ended a 47-year wait for county honours last year, edged out Cappy on a 0-20 to 0-19 scoreline thanks to late points from Jack Forde and Tadhg Haran. In a game which was level 11 times, Cappy were on the brink of reaching their first ever final when Dara Dolan gave them the lead in injury-time, but there was still time for the city side to snatch victory.

In the other semi-final, goals in each half from Darragh Burke and Brendan Farrell proved decisive as St Thomas' defeated Sarsfields by 2-19 to 0-20 to leave themselves just 60 minutes away from a third county title since 2012.

The decider will take place at Pearse Stadium on Sunday, 18 November.
