Galway's first-ever home game in the Leinster SHC is expected to draw a crowd in excess of 20,000 on Sunday.

The Tribesmen have been competing in Leinster since 2009, but this weekend's game against Kilkenny will be their first home Leinster SHC tie in Pearse Stadium. The last time they had home advantage in the championship was back in 2011 when they played Clare in the All-Ireland qualifiers.

"We expect to get 20,000, but that figure could rise on the day," Galway hurling committee chairman Michael Larkin told the Irish Examiner.

"The fine weather, the good buzz around Salthill on Sundays and, of course, this being our first home fixture in Leinster could entice more local people out. We also expect a decent Kilkenny crowd to travel up for the weekend too.
