Surely it's a no brainer? Loads of players with less talent than David have played inter county minor and senior the same year. This is the freak of all freaks I think Fitz would be mad not to call him in for the replay wether to start or come on. clondalkindub (Dublin) - Posts: 9926 - 20/08/2017 19:34:12 2035688 Link 0 |

He is supremely talented, no doubt about it. But Keegan or Boyle would make short work of him. Senior intercounty football at this time of the year is no place for a 17/18 year old anymore. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 4982 - 20/08/2017 20:02:42 2035709 Link 0 |

Exactly. It would be the destroying of the lad. You watch minor games and they look fast and skilful; but when you look closely at the play in the subsequent senior game, there are three huge differences: 1. At senior level, you have no time on the ball before you're closed down. Minors run fast, but they have more time to get and pass the ball. Minor football gives you more time to think. In your first few senior games, you could be left looking like a right eejit, no matter how gifted a minor you are. 2. Tackling. Minor tackling is soft and half-hearted compared to the on-the-edge stuff that happens at senior level. 3. Physical and mental strength. Senior players are stronger and they're ruthless and none of them would want to be made a fool of by a teenager. Clifford is a future senior star; of that there is no doubt, but it'd be madness - and very unfair - to bring him on to do a serious job. 5 mins from the end maybe, provided Kerry coasting to victory. essmac (Tyrone) - Posts: 1141 - 20/08/2017 21:05:06 2035736 Link 0 |
Exactly against the rules.

Biggest worry about young lads playing for the county is injuries, 1 hard shoulder into the chest or shoulder to shoulder is a broken collar bone for the youngster, the pace is miles apart and anyway why would he mess up his All Ireland minor Final by playing for the seniors and maybe get injured riverboys (Mayo) - Posts: 1389 - 20/08/2017 23:45:51 2035792 Link 0 |
No chance. They will mind him. Great player, he's the best minor I've seen since McKenna who's playing the Aussie rules now. salvador (Roscommon) - Posts: 439 - 21/08/2017 00:30:11 2035802 Link 0 |
As with almost every other response on this thread, apart from it not being allowed, it'd be madness. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 2018 - 21/08/2017 09:42:33 2035844 Link 0 |
Soon enough we will see him I fear. The ease they put away Cavan yesterday was frightening, they toyed with them, they could have easily scored more goals and when Cavan brought it back to 5 kerry upped it again and powered home.

I honestly don't think it's madness , yes he's playing against young players but their the best their county has ,he is destroying them on his own , how do all players make senior ? By standing out at minor/21, if it's not allowed fair enough but he's so confident in his own ability I don't think he'd have any fear against Mayo. Imagine him coming on in the replay the lift it would give the Kerry crowd and team. This is no ordinary minor people he would do damage. clondalkindub (Dublin) - Posts: 9926 - 21/08/2017 10:30:35 2035868 Link 0 |
It is allowed surely? I seem to remember McBrearty playing minor and senior for Donegal in the same year, unless the rule has changed since

Since the start of 2016, any players on a minor panel can't play intercounty senior.

For me not a hope , he's a talent and reminds me so much of Con O Callaghan , so far ahead of his own age group , but being ahead of the best under 18s is a mile away from senior championship , his day will come , Jim Gavin has shown the template for dealing with young talent , for the lads sake let him grow he has an All Ireland final to look forward to , he has a team of which he's an integral part , imagine him coming on for 15 mins and getting injured and missing out on an all Ireland final , what a two fingers to the minor panel who have trained all year in the very same way as seniors , a great career awaits of that there is no doubt but in this instant age we're everything happens faster and quicker this is one time we're patience is the intelligent call. Not completely up on the rules , gooch said on Sunday that he's playing senior club in Kerry , so I take it that that's OK but you have to wait a further year to play senior county is that correct ??

This is the last time I reply to A username with USA after his name: I didn't know the rules were changed , now I do it's the end of thread. clondalkindub (Dublin) - Posts: 9926 - 21/08/2017 15:50:19 2036098 Link 0 |
Yes Damo, You can play club senior if 17 years older but not intercounty if eligible for minor as I understand it. catch22 (USA) - Posts: 2148 - 21/08/2017 16:26:05 2036110 Link 0 |
