Players manufacturing a high tackle

(Oldest Posts First)

This weekend I've seen an increase in attackers manufacturing high tackles in them by using their arms to rise the defenders arm or hurl up around their own neck to win a free. When are referees going to cop on to this?

Agree Lee Chin has manafactured at least 10 frees between Kilkenny Galway and Waterford so far this year

I agree that some of them are being manufactured all right but in fairness if I guy brings his hurl in around the body he can't complain if his opponent uses it ot his advantage

Agreed. Some players duck into the tackle so the hurley is around their neck because they are at waist height. It needs to be looked at..if you duck then you get no free.

In fairness to the referee yesterday Austin Gleeson was at this once in the first half, barging with the head down and a free was awarded against him.

too many hurls around the head/neck area nowadays.

it is impossible though, players just hold onto the ball too long,it is inevitable.
brick walsh was very clever though, just catch the arm and swing himself around.
modern hurling is impossible to referee.
while i am at it,i thought the constant nee naw brigade from the waterford sideline was completely unnecessary.a lad wins a free and on runs the physio.ffs get up and hurl like a man unless you are injured.a mouthful of water and off they run.it was incredible.and then they were booing when gleeson was "injured",live by the sword die by it and referees need to cop on to this nonsense

Refs cant seem to call the 4 steps rule nor the attacker holding a defenders arm and falling to ground which must account for half of all frees awarded
