Mon the Farney!"
Mayo trainjng hard since Oct and apart from cillian they have their full championship team, so it depends on which Mayo turn up? Last Saturday's team or the one that did against Galway. I think Monaghan will be up for this and may pip them.."
Mayo have not been training since October....you and some Galway fans are obsessed with us and live trotting out the line we have no new players (which is untrue) and keep harping home Galway have a second team to come back in....god help us all.

I hope da dubs can give ye a game in da all Ireland final."]Yew tree, Galway fans are no way obsessed by you boys, In fact I think you definitely have a little obsession with ourselves. The fact is Mayo got together in October for the trial games and training resumed the following week, this is a known fact, most other div 1 teams only got back in January so ye lads are flying it in terms of fitness, and apart from Cillian have everyone available, your full championship team. And it looks like ye may have found one or two new players, but then again they have only played a handful of league games so we will wait and see.."]Galway Clubs didn't finish up till December, and started training again in January..maybe thats the cause of all yer injuries"]Galway club finished on Paddys day.. winning another All Ireland"]Mayo only have one complete squad per week and during the league when there are back to back games they don't have squad training sessions. During the week the players based in Dublin, about 15 in total, train in Dublin rather than commute back and forth to Dublin. Congratulations to Corofin on winning the All Ireland!! Quick question how come Corofin play some of the most attractive football in the country and Galway play some of the ugliest?"]I think you will find lots of inter county football is 'ugly' as you call it. We are scapegoated for football ills now. It will be somebody else next season. That is the match real fact. Mind you our first half performance against ye and the Ros match as direct and offensive football as you will see but of course convenient to ignore that. On the match I expect Mayo to win although should be close."]In fairness, ye were only direct in the first half against us because of the breeze. Ye didn't score from play in the 2nd half.

Hard to call this game. We never play well in MacHale Park unfortunately. I've a feeling Galway will pip Tyrone and we won't reach the league final either way."]'We never play well in MacHale Park'.Seriously?"]When was our last good performance there?

Even though we beat Roscommon and Cavan, I don't think we played that well.

MayoDan, new post, reply format is gone mad. It depends on what you mean by playing well? It's still March and we're trying new players and positional changes. I defy any team to play good football the night of the Rossies game. It's all about results to stay in Division One, and if not points getting experience for new senior players. We didn't play well against Cavan , compared to the Tyrone game, because on the day their defence was better setup than Tyrone's.

He played a (one) charity soccer match for a recently deceased person who died far too young, so maybe just watch your facts before spouting pure drivel.

I'm not just talking about this year. In general our best performances are away from MacHale Park. Kerry and Tyrone this year, Monaghan and Kildare last year and other examples.

It's a hard one to explain why.

Well I hope that ye don't play well and monaghan have there best performance yet and secure D1 for next year without relying on results.
Looking forward to what should be a cracking game. Love the mayo games we always seem to have a decent battle .

More expectation to win at home. I think that can create anxiety which we don't always handle well. Good teams expect to win at home, great teams believe they will win at home. I honestly think some Dublin players dreaded Croke Park pre-2011. Nowadays nearly all of their home opponents are beaten before the game because they believe, whatever it takes, they'll beat any team there.

Anyway back again to the actual game & not the incessant rivalry between Galway Mayo. Monaghan still without a few players, but showing some signs of the 2018 team last weekend - albeit against a very poor Cavan side.
However, good to see the team dynamic & cohesion back again. I think Monaghan will look forward to this encounter & the likes of young O'Hanlon will be energized by the opportunity. Should be a good, honest game. No bad blood between these sides & a healthy mutual respect. Heart says Monaghan, head says Monaghan.
Looking forward to it.

Horan continuing with his rotation system. Eight of the starting fifteen aged 23 or younger. I think Monaghan will win on Sunday as they have that bit more to play for, but interesting to see how a few more new faces fare against one of the top teams. Would be good if we can be competitive without the likes of Higgins, Barrett, Boyle, Keegan, Vaughan, Tom P, Seamie, Cillian and Andy.

Rotation I can understand for the previous rounds but to continue to rotate when the opportunity of final is there makes little sense. Mayo would win with a stronger and more experienced team but Monaghan should be winning this game on Sunday now if Mayo start without the likes of Keegan,Boyle,Higgins,Barrett etc starting.

Will O Donoghue get the job of marking McManus?

6 changes from the Kerry game. James McCormack gets his first start. Interesting full forward line with two strong men in Coen and Diskin. Fergal Boland impressed when he came in v Kerry. Average age of this particular team looks around 25....won't please the "Mayo are too old" brigade.

Any Monaghan team ?

Take the starting team from last week and won't be too far off. Monaghan don't tend to release teams in advance ....

Yew tree you seem to go on about that point more than anyone.. Anyways here's a question for you?
If Reape, Ruane, Diskin, Plunkett, Mc Cormack, Mc Donagh, all make the Championship squad this year, What 6 players lose out from last year?

That's the freshest looking selection I can remember in the league over the past 7 or 8 years. I think only AOS and JDoc have started all games, so certainly the management have delivered on their intention to try new faces. The risk of doing this is obvious. Monaghan don't really need to win imo, as I don't see Kerry wanting to finish their campaign with two losses and the risk of a third in the final, which is likely to be against Tyrone. With our selection, the emphasis rightly is on giving the newer players selected a final chance to be considered for the summer. But with a more seasoned team out, Monaghan are by far the better bet. On that basis, I'm thinking a 4 to 5 point win for the Farney. Anything better than that for us, and particularly a win, will be a pleasant surprise.

Not to fussed about the result if im honest , and i wouldn't mind seeing Monaghan stay up either.

I'm just happy horan has began the rebuilding process and i like the way hes doing it , a nice blend of experience and youth and i don't think Mayo will be going anywhere during the this phase.

connacht and super 8s is aim, and if we get to croke park we can do some damage .

Only the league you shouldn't forget. Mayo finished top of the league in 2010.

Most of "old brigade" will still be starters come this summer simply because they remain Mayo's best players. How many of Eoin O'Donoghue;Michael Plunkett, James McCormack; Matthew Ruane, Fergal Boland, Darren Coen, Conor Diskin do you reckon will start for Mayo if they reach the super 8s this summer?

Makes sense if we find more players for the championship squad. I'm surprised but happy he's given so many new faces a chance and that we've avoided relegation doing so. Championship will be the real test for them. Hopefully he won't revert to same old and players like Ruane and McDonagh, hopefully more, will nail down starting spots. Our championship team has picked itself for years. Good to see competition for places. Hopefully it'll be real competition and we can improve.

There will probably be 3 new starters come summer. Which is great. Not sure what people are expecting? Tell anyone over 25 involved in previous losses to retire?
