Is it not the GAA journalists who decide the All Star nominations, then vote to narrow it down to the actual winners and the same for Players of the Year in both categories? The players have their own GPA awards that they vote in. I'm open to correction but as i said I heard Brian Carthy discussing it on the radio a while back.

The all star team is decided by panel of journalists and The YPOY and POTY are decided by a players vote is my understanding of it, going from memory here so im open to correction.

Once again the club game utterly ignored; Chrissy McKaigue from Slaughtneill an obvious choice, outstanding whenever I have watched him befair (Down) - Posts: 237 - 14/09/2018 14:37:46 2141724 Link 0 |
Dissapointed not to see Connor McAliskey pick up a nomination. Gets average of 50 mins per game, expected to track back and does, spending half his time inside his own 45 and still finishes the championship as 2nd top scorer to McManus. Glad to see he picked up an ulster all star but with 18 forwards getting the nod for nomination how the second highest scoring forward in the 2018 championship missed out is beyond me. I think there are no enough Dubs nominated...if Limerick can have all 15 starters named why no the Dubs!!!! witnof (Dublin) - Posts: 1604 - 14/09/2018 15:17:25 2141736 Link 0 |
Impressive scoring stats for Broderick. Connor McAliskey was second overall championship scorer behind McManus and couldn't get a nomination. Carlow didn't get beyond round 2 of the qualifiers. When was the last time a player whose county exited the championship that early received a nomination. I'm convinced Broderick's nomination is to do with last year.

Obsession much ? Why not concentrate on getting Westmeath to win a game in the championship? carlovia (None) - Posts: 1517 - 16/09/2018 11:22:11 2141957 Link 0 |
Childish response.

these really are the worst type of comments on here. where one poster looks at the county of another poster and remarks on it.

Don't forget to pick up your toys when you are finished.

It's good to see Clinton got his usual token nomination. Looking forward to seeing Rory Beggan pick up the all star this year. Can't be giving an all star to a keeper who might have 1 save to make per match and takes 90%of his kickouts short. tirawleybaron (Mayo) - Posts: 1091 - 23/09/2018 07:38:53 2143324 Link 1 |
I think Clinton is ok with what he has, despite being greedy and wanting more in the past. Wait, who are we talking about here?

hard to credit a single Kildare Nomination. a shocking season for them. WunderBar (Galway) - Posts: 290 - 25/09/2018 12:02:22 2143693 Link 1 |
Hopefully someone from Galway will get the "pull out of the man" award. Well deserved. For a team that had a shocking season, Galway didn't exactly put us away when you had us down to 14 men. Wasn't long after you found out where you are in the food chain. The Kildare lads who got nominations got them on merit, same as everyone else.

Better that then the 'Pull on the Man' Award

You could have won a few of those too but most players tend to stand up. Something that might be useful to learn.

I'd honestly say coming into this new season Kildare and galway are at the same level

I'd argue that a very debatable red card in both our last two S8 matches lost us them games, very hard to say if we would have held/pushed on otherwise, but we may have. I won't question that Galway were by far and away the more consistent team last year but in terms of talent when playing to highest potential, I've seen real good things from Kildare, coupled with very strong u20's to be added.. of course I'm an optimist here (you'll say biased, fair enough) but I am very hopeful of our future, by saying I feel we're at the same level, it's not to demean Galway but a statement of intent and hope from me
