GAA Calendar Year Restructure

(Oldest Posts First)

Hi Folks

Long time reader, novice poster.
I was debating a potential revamp to the GAA Year for football over some pints recently and here is what we came away with, how would ye all view this?

Early on in the year, dispose of the league, and replace it with the Provincial Championships. The provincial championships do not fit in well with the current structure. This way, the honour of winning the PC is kept (which I think is very important) and no longer will certain teams waltz into the quarters. Games can take place in late Feb and be wrapped up by early April at the latest.

For the AI Championship, create 8 groups (7 with 4, 1 with 5 teams) and have a Champion's League format, top 2 go through, with group winners facing 2nd place teams from other groups. Has variety, and has potential to be finished by August, serving Club Players too. Possible 'Europa League' format for teams in 3rd place.

Seedings for the first year could be based off the leagues

Thoughts?

That is a lot of training for the possibility of only playing 4 games (1 prov & 3 group stage) in a year.
Possibly run the prov championship like the Munster Hurling league was run this year.
Top 2 play in a Final.
Would run 2 groups in Leinster due to the number of counties and the top of each group play in a final?
