Seo Spóirt axed by TG4

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

the popular TG4 sports show has been axed. Rumour has it that the new Director of TG4, Alan Esslemont doesn't believe in Studio panel shows. Hence the reason. Also I would presume Mr Esslemont is not a GAA man.
There is a petition to sign to stop this move.

The charade that is TG4 needs to be called out. It's a massively subsidised Gaelgoir tummy tickle. People only watch it for the sport and even then they don't offer an option to listen to commentary in Hiberno English which is the country's language. Stop the subsidies now.

This is a typical "bloodyban" reply. Limerick seems to have a lot of anti Gaelic types. Maybe it has something to do with the fact the GAA are so weak in the county.
I am surprised too given the amount of Guinness Rugby matches on TG4 that Mr BB is against the Irish language.

Don't worry Bloodyban's views are not shared by many Limericks people.

galwayford if gaa is so weak in limerick - how come we get better support than galway e.g 2014 nhl quarter final , 2013 and 2014 minor hurling semis 2015 under 21 hurling semi (the week before galway won allireland semi so hurlign would have been on a high)

if gaa is so weak how come we have recently all ireland club and 21s and got to minor finals in 2014 and 2016 -

Ceapim go bhfuil Seó Spóirt ró-chostasach, agus s'é an fáth go bhfuil siad sásta deireadh a chur don chlár. Is íontach an chlár í Seó Spóirt. Cathfaidh TG4 í a choinneáil ar an aer. Mar a dúirt duine amhain tá fo-teidil in úsáid ar an chlár ar aon nós. Is féidir le daoine gan Gaeilge sult a bhaint as an gclár freisin.

* I think Seó Spóirt is regarded as being too costly, and that's the reason they are happy to end the programme. Seó Spóirt is an excellent programme. TG4 must keep it on air. As one person said it uses subtiltles anyway. Non-Irish speakers can enjoy it also.*

I'd say the majority (maybe even all) the people who watch Seó Spóirt can speak, read and probably even write as Béarla.

A great show and I hope it can be saved.
The Sunday game and league Sunday and the Marty squad could learn a lot from this program.

It is an excellent show. Last Frifay night the panel covered hurling and football, plus the rugby. Imagine that happening in RTE, you would have 2 shows, with separate panels.

TG4 is one of the best channels on the box.

But the whole point of the station and its content is to provide Irish language programming for Irish speakers and to promote the Irish language. To have the petition in English defeats the entire concept and goals of the station

But the petition isn't coming from the station. It's coming from the viewers of the show, the majority of whom speak English mainly and have a grasp of Irish.

Ba cheart Seó Spóirt a choimeád, agus is cuma cén teanga a leabhraítear ar an seó.

Seó Spóirt should be kept, regardless what language it's in.
