Yeah that was harsh alright I mean the other guy has undoubtedly a lot of talent but if he's skipping all the hard stuff and just coming for the training you'd have to think the rest of his teammates wouldn't be happy. Still I'm enjoying it and think they look like a much better side than last year's crowd. But can they PLEASE stop with the sob stories, the whole I had an ingrown toenail when I was 20 stuff is getting a bit much. TheHermit (Kerry) - Posts: 6354 - 05/10/2019 00:58:39 2241444 Link 4 |

I thought it was a smart enough move to be honest. When you're playing a match yourself you don't be long finding out what players are dangerous or are weaknesses on the opposition. It was a great chance for the defenders and keeper to either standout to Cassidy or let themselves down. The underdogs still had 3 on the line (including their coach) so that was plenty. It definitely looks as if this is a stronger underdogs team than last year. Gaoth Dobhair looked to have a fairly strong team playing from looking at the highlights so it was a good win for the underdogs.

I seen they named the team last night but didn't reveal all positions. What are the managers keeping up their sleeve for Mayo? PortInFaithful (Offaly) - Posts: 472 - 18/10/2019 11:15:54 2244201 Link 0 |
Former Kerry player Brendan O'Sullivan, who served a 21-week ban for testing positive for methylhexaneamine (MHA) after the Allianz Football League final in 2016, has been named at midfield. Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 3732 - 18/10/2019 12:41:35 2244220 Link 0 |

And your point is? He hasn't played senior championship for his county so is entitled to be there.

How was it swept under the carpet when it was in the media?

thought this was for players who never played county..israel illunga played county for westmeath, im nearly sure of it. if its the case the whole set up is a sham....the real program should be about players who never played county at any level .....this program has run its course preddan (Kildare) - Posts: 736 - 18/10/2019 23:03:31 2244321 Link 2 |
Exactly. Not sure if a forgive and forget attitude is right on failed drug tests either though...! Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 3732 - 19/10/2019 11:46:13 2244340 Link 0 |
They probaly need players of a decent standard. A team made up of players who never played County would be hammered by Mayo. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2763 - 19/10/2019 12:23:45 2244343 Link 0 |
dosent matter......the whole thing is a farce now....surely out of 32 counties youd get a team together of players that never played county before...players who played u20 minor or even senior panelists should be excluded. two thirds of the country is predominately football. the whole program was originally set up for the cause of no county experience and to make it enjoyable to watch and to see with a training program how they would get on. it also gave players an opportunity to shine if they were never spotted within their county before and possibly move on to better things.

To be fair it was only in the first season it was players who never played intercounty. It's been for players who never played championship since

I don't see you're point. They only brought back the program last year after being in the wilderness for about 10 years. It was popular then as it was new and players who didn't get a chance with the Country entered. That wasn't going to last every year. Plenty of good players out thee who might have played league but not championship worth looking at..

Does anyone have a link to the original underdogs - the 2004 game vs Kerry on 11.12.2004? Horsebox77 (Kerry) - Posts: 5491 - 26/10/2019 21:37:32 2246017 Link 2 |
An entertaining match this evening between Mayo and Underdogs. That said I think a new format might be needed next year. Or a clár nua. galwayford (Galway) - Posts: 2519 - 26/10/2019 23:12:43 2246030 Link 0 |
I think they should approach lads to play for the Underdogs rather than leaving it up to whoever applies applies. Mickey Ned would know the best players in Kerry that haven't played championship and the same with the selectors in their counties. They could could ring former players and managers they know for info on players in other counties. A lot of players mighn't be interested but some would and it would lead to a much stronger team.
