We hear a lot about Dublin and what goes on behind the scenes, would like to see the lid lifted, see what supports they are getting etc. gahfan (Wexford) - Posts: 636 - 04/10/2019 23:58:49 2241439 Link 2 |

That's not really a fair point. There will always be unfairness in sport, unless we split Ireland into perfectly equal parts and give each team the same amount of money and ensure all receive identical coaching. I think a tier 2 championship is an excellent idea, provided that all counties start out by competing for Sam Maguire, and only get sorted into tier 2 when they are eliminated from the tier 1 championship. The comparison between Roscommon and Leitrim, and then Roscommon and Dublin doesn't really make sense. Mayo, Kerry, Donegal, Roscommon etc have counties they can compete with that are their own size (I am aware that Roscommon is significantly smaller than those counties I'm grouping them with). Dublin however are a behemoth. They have a population of 1.4m and counting. There isn't another group of counties of comparable size in Ireland. There is no other tier that you can put Dublin in. So you end up (at the moment) with a championship that's being won by the same team 80% of the time, which is not good for the game. It will be interesting to see what percentage of All-Irelands Dublin will win over the next 10-20 years. At that stage we will know whether a decision has to be taken or not on splitting Dublin or merging other counties. I personally would prefer splitting Dublin of course, and I'm sure the majority of other counties would prefer that option as well. However it's too early to think about that at the moment. You need a larger sample size before you can infer enough about Dublins dominance to start splitting or merging anyone. Time will tell. jonjon (Mayo) - Posts: 99 - 05/10/2019 18:03:28 2241500 Link 2 |
Dubs haven't always enjoyed that advantage to the same extent. The shift of young people from the west to Dublin at the level it's at now is a relatively recent phenomenon. Dublin have always enjoyed somewhat of an advantage. But of course it didn't do them any good at all. It's not like they'd won 20 something odd All-Irelands or anything. jonjon (Mayo) - Posts: 99 - 05/10/2019 18:12:56 2241502 Link 2 |

Another advantage dublin players have is that if their car is stolen it's only a minor inconvenience as opposed to having to replace it like most players gahfan (Wexford) - Posts: 636 - 15/10/2019 13:37:25 2243691 Link 4 |
Was it a company laptop too?

You might think its funny, but a Subaru forester is at least 6 personal appearances for a Dublin player to replace as a run around. ;) Even then they arent handy to park in Dundrum, if you have goo on you for a bit of Ralph Lauren and a shake from the shake shack. Its not all trips to Dubai, free gold membership and Gold cards in Coppers. ;) TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 4445 - 15/10/2019 14:18:26 2243707 Link 7 |
That's right , he seems more worried about his laptop.

Probably because it has personal details on it. Are you telling me that Kerry players don't get free Masseys? Come off it!

Personal stuff eh? ;-) What does he want an off road vehicle for anyway? KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 14092 - 15/10/2019 19:10:49 2243791 Link 3 |
Those roads around Tralee and Killarney are horrendous. He can't take the sponsor gifted E class Merc on those roads for away matches in the league. It's not like the smooth asphalt surfaces in the capital. The Healey Raes need to get their act together down there. The Forester is the only job alright around those Kerry boreens.

What would ye know about the roads around Tralee and Killarney? Or any where else? Sure ye don't have to leave home at all.

Perhaps 'Headquarters' could provide chauffeurs for the 'Boys in blue'. GreenAndGold74 (Kerry) - Posts: 194 - 17/10/2019 13:20:56 2244063 Link 1 |
I thought your win in Tralee in Feb would linger long in your memory, as it should in getting one up on the champs. Perhaps you weren't there. We flew into Farranfore that morning with the team on the sponsor provided Gulfstream jet. No need for the Foresters on that occasion.
