I would say Cantwell is delighted joe is gone. I find her extremely annoying. She is the host the panel are there as experts to give there opinion she went out of her way to force her opinion particularly when brolly would be trying to make a point. Daragh Maloney was the man for that role by far the best commentator who would have been an excellent host Time to show Cantwell the door. jacktheDub (Dublin) - Posts: 944 - 12/09/2019 16:05:43 2234788 Link 7 |

I've no idea, maybe I wrote something offensive without realising it, it was a few weeks ago, I was logging in today and it said I was banned

Dolan is from Westmeath...so what bias are you saying he has? Given your pen name I presume you must think he is anti Dublin. But not too long ago people on the forum here were criticising him for being pro Dublin. Probably means he is your typical neutral calling it as he sees it.

Really, and who exactly said that now ? I don't know how you could make a case for that but please enlighten me. Dubh_linn (Dublin) - Posts: 2312 - 12/09/2019 21:09:46 2234875 Link 0 |
Joe Brolly is box office has to be one of the dumbest comments I regularly hear when it comes to making excuses for his poor punditry. I know we're living in the age of Trump, when truth and facts seem to mean much less than a good sound bite but when it comes to an All Ireland final or a GAA match in general, I just want to hear honest analysis based on reality and facts, not agenda driven spin and winding up fellow pundits just for the sake of it. The players are box office and if they're not entertaining enough for you, then maybe in truth, you really just aren't that interested in the game. Anyone listen to the GAA hour? I find Colm Parkinson very good. Not afraid to admit if hes wrong but he has a great understanding of the game. Even for the hurling he speaks more sense than some of the hurling pundits. Excellent memory of years and past incidents too but consistently brings up points that arent always clear to most at the time. tiobraid (Tipperary) - Posts: 4119 - 12/09/2019 22:24:44 2234893 Link 1 |
Cantwell is great. she is entitled to opinions. she was dead right to not let Brolly hog the airtime.

yea id give it a listen as often as possible. i think its a happy medium between Rte and Sky. There are a few rants here and there but plenty of analysis too. what i like about it most is there seems to be a freedom of expression from Wooly and the other hosts. they dont have to be projecting this squeaky clean Rose of Tralee image of themselves in fear that they might lose their job if they happened to 'offend' listeners with the odd curse word or strong opinion on something. its a combination of lads with a good understanding of the game, who can speak well but do it in a manner that makes it seem like they're at a booth in their local pub very much in their comfort zone. i think the average GAA fan can relate to this environment a lot more than the pundits on TV who remind me of a tense, suited and booted younster going for his first job interview. If we are to have pundits they should be challenging each other on the nuances of the game. Not on the referee especially about Richie Hogan's blatant elbow the head or Cooper on a warning, a yellow card committing a third offence and rightfully sent off. The GAA Hour is great. Wooly likes an aUl whinge and bangs on about his playing days a bit but it's good banter. A lot of his fellow presenters feel free to put him in his place! I love listening to the hurling show especially when Cheddar is on. His 'hurling is a skill based game, I could train 20 sheepdogs how to play soccer' was a classic. I think he did a bit of work for RTE before but after having his own podcast he'd hate the conservatism of being a presenter for RTE.

Nah, better to have one presenter for the live and a different one for TSG. Viewers don't want to be seeing the same mug on TV the whole time. That chap that's been presenting the live matches on tg4 (since it started as far as I can tell!) is very good (is it McDara McDonnacha? Sorry, I've probably butchered his name). I think they're going to stick with Joanne and Des anyway. ballydalane (Kilkenny) - Posts: 1246 - 13/09/2019 05:43:01 2234923 Link 0 |
Parkinson wouldn't wear those skinny 3-piece suits with a ridiculously over the top tie, seems to be a precondition for the job now.

Well said. Some total rubbish in earlier posts about people being over sensitive & too PC as if somehow Joe is just too much of a character for us poor little faint hearts. I'm not glad Brolly is gone because I'm offended by him; I'm glad Brolly is gone because his 'analysis' is lazy & cliched & boring and basically just terrible.

The GAA hour is very good alright. very easy listening to and they make some very good points, can be cutting but very funny too.

Joe Brolly's problem is that he doesn't know when to shut up. He's constantly interrupting the other pundits, often with inane and irrelevant comments. lionofludesch (Down) - Posts: 475 - 13/09/2019 08:19:10 2234930 Link 4 |
