Replying To TheFlaker:  "Dillon ahead of Moran, then you are bluffing. 100 per cent he makes it. Mayo have not had that many outstanding forwards in my lifetime. There would be the likes of Joe Corcoran and Padraig Carney from way back but if you are picking 6 forwards Moran makes it, so does Cillian."
Mayo's best 6 forwards from '96 Flaker what do you think;

Dillon McDonald D O Conor

C O Conor Moran C Mortimer

'96 is as far back as I can remember with Mayo am I leaving anyone out you'd have in?

Jesus Diarmuid O'Connor? I think he has a bit more to do to be considered in Mayos best 6 forwards of the last 20 odd years. A class player no doubt but he has only really had one great year. Last year he was poor until having the game of his life when they lost to Kildare but that was at midfield. Was poor this year when he played i felt but struggled with injury

James Horan ahead of Diarmuid O'Connor IMO.

I'd have James Horan ahead of Conor Mortimer. Conor was a quality freetaker but never worked hard enough to contribute enough to play. He could have been one of our greatest forward had he knuckled down, worked hard for the team and had the attitude of Ken and Trevor.

As far as I know Conor is the second highest Mayo scorer of all time; and you want to drop him in a county not known for scoring forwards.

Like your county of Monaghan,Roscommon is a small population county.We can't afford to have one of our biggest towns Ballaghaderreen playing in Mayo for gaa purposes any more than ye could afford to have Castleblayney playing in Armagh .I'm conscious of the history of and the divided loyalties of Ballaghaderreen.A fair solution would be that a Ballaghaderreen club player who is good enough for inter county football should be allowed to elect to play for either Mayo or Roscommon.I don't understand why that isn't allowed.The reality is that the Ballaghaderreen situation is damaging gaa relations between Roscommon and Mayo and that's a real pity.We're all West of Ireland people and a Connacht county hasn't won Sam Maguire for 18 years and counting.

From what I understand, you got Ballagha from Mayo because you lost Athlone to Westmeath, which also gained Mullingar from Meath under the same act (why is hard to fathom). What's the status of the Athlone clubs... don't the ones west of the Shannon represent Roscommon and are any administratively in Westmeath (please excuse my ignorance)?

I did. Your comments about him not working hard are legitimate.

However, working hard or not, he actually DID become "one of our greatest forwards"; his scoring statistics prove it beyond argument. Of course if he had worked harder he would have been better.

If he brought an armchair on to the field for the odd rest, he would still have been worth his place.

He was a free taker. Maurice Sheridan isn't on my 6 list either. You seem to base a lot picking 6 forwards on their score tally. I'll argue Kevin McLoughlin and a few more forwards made a bigger contribution to Mayo football than Conor Mortimer. I thought of another player that would contend for the 6 best forwards though he had a fairly short inter county career. Kevin O'Neill,class act.

When you see this debate over who were the best 6 Mayo Forwards over the last 20 years, you can really understand why they haven't won the all-ireland in that time

People living in the Westmeath area west of the shannon have to play with westmeath clubs

James horan should be included in any debate about best forward in modern times for mayo. Seems he is now underated and maybe people forget how good a score taker he was.

Mullingar was never in Meath and never would want to be.! Westmeath became independent from Meath in the 1540s.In fairness to Pericles,he did say excuse his ignorance.
