Will spare you the precise details of my puberty, then. Sufficient to say that all went exactly as it should. '84 was one of the most difficult defeats of all to stomach. Wexford just a point down and with all the momentum after just scoring a goal as the clock ticked towards 35 minutes, and then the ref blew the final whistle with something like 15 seconds of normal time to go. No injury time allowed whatsoever. It wasn't until the biffos had the same thing done to them by Jimmy Cooney in '98 that we realised we should have stormed the field and sat down. By then, it was too late….. '93 Leinster Final was another one that got away. Think it was Eamonn Morrissey who scored the late equaliser for Kilkenny? And then Wexford were well beaten in the replay. Pikeman96 (Wexford) - Posts: 2229 - 26/08/2019 16:23:33 2229474 Link 0 |
Eamon Morrissey scored four points in a row, all in a few minutes, after he was switched off John O'Connor who had held him all day. Desperate mistake not to have sent John after him. They should have won both the League and Leinster title that year. but lost both in replays.

My father always said Wexford were a better team in 93 than they were in 96.

Ah the 90s, the greatest period in our games, any county felt they could win Liam or Sam not like the bull since when only 3 or 4 have a chance, it was roughly a level playing field during that time riverboys (Mayo) - Posts: 1389 - 29/08/2019 11:34:32 2230381 Link 0 |
That was an excellent wexford team, the drawn leinster final against Kilkenny was one of the greatest games of all time. Tg4 should show that some night.
