Michael Donoghue gone lads, I really wasn't expecting that! Any reasons given why?

Main contenders for the job? Anthony Daly surely? Eamon O'Shea?

In fairness he's had four years, and unfortunately Galway seem to have regressed somewhat in the last two years. As an All Ireland winning manager his place in the history books is assured, but in a tough demanding sporting world, it does not make you immune from criticism, and one big criticism that could be levelled at him in the last few years is that he has been very slow to make changes or bring any new players into the team. As regards the new man, I would love to see Eamon O'Shea in charge, but it's very hard to see him leaving the Tipperary setup, after that I honestly haven't a clue.

Did he not recently sign a new contract extension?

Why could you not get his name right?

I hope it's a Galway man, the few All-Irelands we have won were won with one of our own in charge. The use of non-Galway managers was a failure and in some cases quite harmful to the Galway cause.

Mattie Kenny? Hardly leave Dublin.
Lynskey? Big step up

Has anyone considered Brian Hanley. He gave a great interview on TG4 after the U17 Final and is an out and out Galway man

With few exceptions the outside manager idea is a failure, although Offaly were trained by five different outsiders on their way to their four All Ireland wins

O Donoghue did a good job. It's a hard thing to win an All Ireland. He got them playing consistently but there was a big slip up this year. Also he hadn't them at the pitch of the game for the All Ireland final last year.

Motivation: good to very good
Tactically: medium to poor
Ruthlessness: good
Style: good

Theres alot of talent in Galway ,always is. But at the same time Galway are still naive as a team, still make silly decisions, rarely cynical in the backs. I dont think O Donoghue has impacted on those things. I think he made a major error this year in not Whalloping Carlow but hindsight is 20/20. I can see Jeff Lynskey getting a go if he wants it.

Cunningham had a good foundation in place for Michael. Alot of people in galway wanted Michael and in fairness he did a great job. I wish him well and I would be more than happy to see him return again in the future.

This year was going well enough untill the Dublin game. It was out of our hands. The ref gave Dublin too many soft frees. There is nothing management can do when this happens. Thanks again MIchael for the sucess you brought and you have left Galway hurling in a good place.

Davy Fitz and Donal Og are the men for the job. You might only beat weaker counties but at least you'll be innovative.

Fair play to him for the AI in 17 but realistically Galway is a bit of a basket case and should have won more. Always seem yo have the promise but rarely deliver.
It'll be an internal appointment so probably from the underage management options.

2 All Ireland finals, won 1 lost 1
3 Leinster Finals, won 2 lost 1
1 NHL final, 1 win

6 finals 4 wins

Impressive. Good on the man, he brought Galway hurling forward.

MD did good for Galway, the thread is not about the past 100 years. Galway are recent arrivals on the big stage with a level playing field, decades of playing in no provincial championship was not good. Galway was just helping the GAA keep Leinster and Munster Championships intact. I would be optimistic, do not agree with the "basket case" metaphor at all.

Its Jeff's job by the look of it and he deserves a shot as he has done nothing wrong. Eamonn o shea would be a strong appointment to the management team.
