I think you're just looking to wind people up, it was clearly a penalty. Keegan showed again against Dublin that he's not capable of man-marking inside.

Not angry lad you just talk a lot of rubbish. Murphy will get a deserved all star. Donaghy agrees with you. Congrats. The same Donaghy who tipped Mayo to beat Dublin? And Coen is hit and miss, good in 3 games, poor in the others. That's just the way he is. Hindsight is great talking about McLoughlin, worked a treat having him as an impact sub with Moran versus Donegal. I backed Horan making that call unfortunately the 10 minutes after half time scuppered all those plans. Throwing them in? DOC was our bloody captain and it was a hand injury, i back that call all day long. As I said, hindsight is great. Horan can make funny decisions but I had no issue with those ones. Leaving Keegan as a full back was more mind boggling. And lastly Mayo are not poor. Behind Dublin and Kerry but can beat any of the rest and come again if they regroup next year. If Mayo are poor who isn't in your eyes? TheFlaker (Mayo) - Posts: 7830 - 15/08/2019 15:41:37 2226043 Link 8 |
Peno or not, Murphy still had to score it.

Murphy had a good year alright but he may miss out on one. I also agree with above poster I taught he was very average against Mayo and kicked some poor wides at a vital time which cost Donegal. sourmilk93 (Roscommon) - Posts: 1142 - 15/08/2019 16:05:47 2226054 Link 0 |
Mayo this year we're poor cause of all their injuries I respect this Mayo team and with everyone fit are very good just look at the league final, but they were crippled with injuries all summer and made them a poor team that should of been bet well before the semi final , massive respect for getting this far but it's a bad look for Murphy and Donegal that they couldn't beat this Mayo team.

McShane played well on sunday but also missed some vital scoring chances which would of possibly got Tyrone over the line. He ended the game with 0-7 to his name and should of scored more. You categorize his performance as outstanding and to be honest I don't completely disagree with that but you point to Murphy's missed chances v Mayo as to him having a poor game yet he still ended up with 1-4 when playing midfield for the majority of the game and was directly involved in 1-7 of Donegal's total of 1-10 in a wet miserable night for football. You said Mayo were injury ravaged but the truth is they had a lot more players available in the match day 26 that they had in their match away to Kerry and it was actually Donegal who were down a lot of numbers. I honestly don't think Murphy could of done much more in that game to be honest, he put Donegal on his back in that second half and as another poster already said he needed help from others like McBrearty and McHugh in order to get the job done. Yes, he missed a few chances but there were a lot of wides kicked by both teams that night as the playing conditions were awful. Because Murphy is considered to be the best all round player of the last decade he is judged at a higher level than most and your comparison of McShane and him in their respective last games proves this. I also don't think you're being very fair on your assessment of Mayo. Not many teams would of matched them on that particular night given what was at stake especially for their older players. They wanted another big game in croke park and I think if they had another week to prepare for Dublin the end result would of been much closer. McShane couldn't beat Kerry either so that's not a great point to be making. Murphy hit 1-7 against Kerry don't forget. You're way off here; Murphy had a few wides against Mayo but carried the team back into that game. He was superb against Kerry. He was superb against Tyrone. The man was outrageously good this year throughout Championship and I assume you didn't want him playing in all those games or you wouldn't even be posting this stuff! Murphy is one man. McShane was one man v Donegal. McShane was an anonymous against them, not a great look. Not sure how you are judging these things. Murphy was excellent against Mayo considering he wasn't getting any help. He was pretty much outstanding in all games.

That's exactly it. Murphy is a once in a lifetime player and I know a lot of us Donegal supporters are starting to fear that his time is nearing an end as he recently hit the big 3-0 but he is at the peak of his powers at the moment. I think he has another couple of years left in his current role and then hopefully another couple as an out and out no.14 like Kevin Cassidy does for Gaoth Dobhair if the body holds up for him. Because of an injury crisis Murphy had to play the majority of his football during the super 8's at midfield and scored 2-14 in 3 games. He played 6 championship games with performances v Tyrone, Meath and Kerry possibly 10/10 displays and no matter what clondalkin says he was very influential v Mayo in an off colour Donegal team performance where only he, Daire O'Baoil, McMenamin and Niall O'Donnell played to their potential. Donegal are blessed to have him and I will be shocked if he doesn't get his deserved all star this year. Mobot (Donegal) - Posts: 459 - 15/08/2019 16:49:00 2226082 Link 0 |
Murphy destroyed kerry, had more of an impact against them then mcshane had!

Agreed on McShane, one of the best forwards in the country this year on form, surely has to get one

maybe not the best player of the past decade then?

I could see Murphy not getting picked for an All star, although fair enough he probably deserves one this year but with Donegal exiting the super 8s I think there are still too many quality forwards having good years that will pip Murphy to it. Currently the 6 forwards I would have would be Howard, C O'C, S O'Brien, Clifford, McShane and Mannion boman11 (Antrim) - Posts: 237 - 16/08/2019 09:28:15 2226262 Link 1 |
Apart from possibly Fenton what midfielder has been better than Murphy? AOS and Moran had one or two good games but no where near as consistent as Murphy.

I would go for Moran, he has also had a great season, consistently plays and lines out in midfield and his team reaching the All Ireland final will have an influence on the decision. Although I agree it should come down to individual performances only I think will definitely influence the pick.

Keogan was consistantly in top 3 performers in every game he played. Remember he played in 8 matches and no player wins matches on his own even M. Murphy. Even against Dublin he marked Kilkenny out of the game who was replaced early in 2nd half. Won penalties against Donegal and Laois after a magnificent catch to win the ball against Laois. Keogan has been one of the best backs, be it in full backline or half backline in Ireland for the last decade. I'm sure Galway would love a back or two that Meath have even with the deplorable defensive system they play. Kerry would also envy some of the backs Meath have.

Moran is getting midfield with Fenton all day long.
