Likely Football Allstars 2019...

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

apart from teams in final the only All Stars will be from Provincial Champions semi final's and outside chance League Final , so looks like one Donegal and maybe one Roscommon with one for Tyrone and maybe 2 for Mayo.

I know I know it's in an individual award but unfortunately it won't be decided that way, normally your county has to do pretty well aswell which I disagree with as it should just he on individual perofmaces alone.

Can't see too many bar Murphy Mcshane Boyle and Durcan (the main choices for me outside the final) maybe one or two more and possibly get Boyle out of there"
Yeah I know what you're saying but the fact is that All Stars are meant to represent individual brilliance. Murphy has checked that box and more this year. Howard has been fantastic as well don't get me wrong but is undeniably helped by the fact that Dublin have gotten to the AI final again. If we swapped the players for instance, do you think Brian Howard would have done the same job as Murphy did this year for Donegal?

that's very fair' and to answer your question no probably not which speaks wonders for Murphy as if he had been playing for Dublin he could be in for POTY never mind an all star but the harsh reality is that there have been too many other forwards firing on all cylinders that have reached the final and of course McShane in the semis.

Roscommon wont get one and we didnt in 2010 and 2016 when we won Connaght. I think they will only come from the four semi finalist. Murphy had good year for Donegal but they went out too early and he hadnt his best game against Mayo. Moran and Fenton are certs for midfield. McShane as top scorer and with Tyrone getting to a semi should be a cert also and the remaining 5 positions will go to Dublin and Kerry players

Yeah I think you have it nailed there.

I would be very surprised if the top 8 players weren't exactly as follows:

8. Fenton
9. Moran
10. O'Brien
11. O'Shea
12. Howard
13. Clifford
14. McShane
15. O'Callaghan

Man of match on Saturday and he could get POTY!

Replying To Lockjaw:  "Howard is a brilliant player for sure and another impressive display in the replay will seal it for him in all likelihood.
But with my Donegal hat on, I think Murphy would be most unfortunate to miss out. He has had yet another colossal year for us. Time will tell."
The replay could either allow more Dublin or Kerry players to get in or less! Its a funny one. If Mannion doesnt score he could lose out although I dont think he should for a second. Similar to Howard (if he plays poorly) who I'd have all day long.
I thought Kilkenny had his best 15 mins in a Dublin jersey the last day at the end and dragged them back into the game. If he gets man of match the next day then he gets in as well. That's just the way it works.
Donaghy right got one a few years ago for a couple of games as without him they wouldn't have turned their year around.

Mannion in for clifford and i think your spot on to be honest.

All stars basically start from the semi final and in a rare case you might have an outlier the likes of a murphy but i dont think you will this year.

Well if they start from the semi would Clifford not be ahead of McShane then?

Thinking on it some more I think Clifford might get YPOTY but miss out on a All-Star strange as that might sound. Mannion to take his place. But what happens if Clifford scores 1-5 tomorrow and Kerry win the final? He'll definitely get an All Star if that's the case. Dublin fans will know better than me. Has Mannion been better than Con?

Not much between Con and Mannion IMO but I think Mannion's work rate when tracking back has been exceptional and he has scored some vital wonder points. Neither particularly good the last day so huge games required tomorrow. Kerry had the D well locked down. But get that ball into Con's hands and things happen. He's unstoppable in that inside forward line.

On your logic they both scored the same in the semi final, Clifford despite early misses destroyed his man. If he has a good game tomorrow then how can you have McShane ahead of him, again using your criteria that from semi final on.
