Very few people begrudge Corofin their three in row, especially after their ET performance. More people reacting to some Galway posters bias. Corofin are an excellent team but that last quarter of normal time was extremely cynical and it nearly cost them but like the champions they are they reacted well in ET to win. I played in a schools game over 20 years ago that got abandoned due to fighting. I played in many underage club games where managers and selectors came on to the pitch to attack refs. That type of stuff is actually on the decrease, thankfully. Normal time was very poor stuff. Both teams engaged in cynical play and there were plenty theatrics. I'm glad it didn't finish with a winner after normal time, as it would've been a very unsatisfactory way to finish it. Corofin got back to playing their game in extra-time and killed it off. Ronan Steede stepped up big time today. He kicked a few huge points. Corofin have been on the go for 3 years without a break. I think we might see them regress a bit next season, but they'll still be hard to beat. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 2039 - 19/01/2020 20:15:50 2260904 Link 0 |
In the first half Kilcoo had most attacks but squandered some very easy chances. Corofin did most of the kicking backwards- Were you watching a different match. Congrats though to Corofin as the have shown themselves to be a great team with their 3 in a row.

Corofin by far the better team in extra time, but how some of the Corofin players didn't get black or yellow , just dismayed me, cuchulainn35 (Armagh) - Posts: 1673 - 19/01/2020 20:23:00 2260909 Link 3 |
The statistics will also show Corofin scored far more from play than Kilcoo.

Agree totally with that, Corofin where much better team but their pathetic antics in last 10 of normal time was ridiculous. Good luck to them, their supporters would be doing them a great favour telling to play rather than play act.

The only people happy with that result will be Corofin fans, of which I am one. it was an ugly spectacle, and after watching the Monaghan/Tyrone final the other day, I'm left wondering how long football has left before the games are played in empty stadia. It's hard to imagine a sport where you can have so much movement, with so little happening. I'm seeing the heavy influence of basketball, which is played with one third of the players on a small court, where it belongs. The endless handpassing, and conservative play is a bore. festinog (Galway) - Posts: 3097 - 19/01/2020 20:53:10 2260924 Link 5 |

The statistics will show one of the reasons for this was the amount of fouls Corofin made just outside the scoring zone with the aim of breaking up attacks before Kilcoo worked the ball into a realistic shooting position; Kilcoo in the main were very disciplined in the tackle. Congratulations to Corofin, great champions but as a neutral I think it important to highlight the false "northern tactics" agenda on here this evening. Corofin do what a lot of great champions do which is be cynical and I thought the ref was soft with them today but throwing yellow cards towards Kilcoo players when a few of their tackles went wrong a lot easier.

Corofin did all the attacking in the first half, but with so much congestion in the Kilcoo goal mouth they should have taken their points instead of going for goals. Kilcoo's plan was to stifle their opponents' footballing ability (football meaning using the foot mostly for passing and scoring). In more than 70 minutes of play Kilcoo scored 7 points in total - 3 from play. Corofin on the other hand got all their scores from play apart from the 3 frees. I'm glad that the team that plays football, when allowed to, won it. Kilcoo have some good footballers, a young enough team but they obviously concentrate more on defending than on attacking, missed some easy chances.

Glad their cynical and unambitious play in normal time was caught out and that they had to win the 3 in a row doing what they're good at. Good man. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13707 - 19/01/2020 21:24:36 2260935 Link 3 |
Well done Corofin . The best club team ever galwayfball (Galway) - Posts: 1678 - 19/01/2020 21:30:50 2260937 Link 2 |
According the Pat Spillane it was Tyrone who started the puke stuff! It's the norm now in every county, unfortunately.

Yes you are 100% correct every county is guilty of it some worse than others just. Haha i wudnt pay mush heed to Spillane says Kerry are a brave hand at the puke stuff 2014 final for instance a carbon copy of corofin today and never a word about it BUT its the win that they and corofin will be remembered for and that's what matters! Don't get me wrong corofin are a fantastic team as we seen in extra time today... letterkennyGuy (Donegal) - Posts: 153 - 19/01/2020 22:03:53 2260952 Link 0 |
There was serious congestion in both goal mouths, to suggest it was only one goalmouth is not accurate. Corofin defended brilliantly in large numbers and broke that bit more effectively throughout. They were excellent for 10 mins in extra time and that was the key difference because Kilcoo didn't come out with the same intensity that they had for the previous 71 minutes. By the way, neither team was 'allowed' play much football due to excellent defences. If you saw Kilcoo play Glenties in the Ulster final you would know they are a fine outfit. Small margins but some funny arguments being put forward here. Donegal_abroad (Donegal) - Posts: 1321 - 19/01/2020 22:06:05 2260954 Link 0 |
