Take David Moran out of that team and Kerry don't have a midfield.....and there is no standout midfielder coming up through the ranks either. A Kerry period of dominance is a myth in my opinion. Dodgy at the back, an ageing midfielder and a handful of classy forwards doesn't translate to a team that is about to dominate gaelic football for an extended period. Couldn't get the job done with a man extra for half the game. I think the Dubs will know they got out of jail today and I fancy them to win the replay pulling up. This match could haunt this bunch of Kerry footballers for a long time to come.

Christ what a game of football these sides gave us..cann9t wait for Sept 14th...my thoughts in the replay is perhaps this was Kerry's chance to win in out and can possibly see Dublin win by 5 points or more..just think the cooper red card held them back a bit today making them more cautious in their play..as for Cooper starting the next day I wouldn't be so sure id trust him certainly not in the full back line anyways pidge (Cork) - Posts: 543 - 01/09/2019 17:49:38 2231331 Link 1 |
Ball was not inside post, it was 4/5 inside post which is a wide

Don't let facts get in the road of a good story. Lets forget about the high fielding, intense tackling, long balls, McCaffrey's goal in particular (look at the build up) and O'Shea's point taking at a time the game was a pressure cooker. I know people from other counties particularly Tyrone want to drag other teams down to their level. But without being bias look at last years final, compare it to today even before the sending off and ask if the 2019 final will be talked about for years to come? The 2018 final is already forgotten about due to the awful tactics we had to witness. Dublin have already went back to the basic skills of the game and Kerry have now joined them! As a result we got the best final in years. Our love of football was restored today and fair play to this young Kerry team who have been coached the right way and Dublin; the best team to ever play the game. What is evident is these two teams will stop any team that want to drag our game into a negative, cynical contest from winning an All Ireland. We should be grateful for that unless your from one of those counties that want to use these awful tactics. Kerry and Dublin won't allow them to be successful over the next decade.

Well done to both teams. Great entertainment. That's what the neutrals want to see. Backed the draw so I'm happy yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11219 - 01/09/2019 17:55:40 2231339 Link 8 |
Thought it was a harsh penalty, resulting in the in the red card incident being a black card for deliberately pulling Clifford down, Kerry should have got a black card too. Has it been done away with? Gough is a top class ref but had an off day today mhunicean_abu (Monaghan) - Posts: 1042 - 01/09/2019 17:56:25 2231340 Link 0 |
Would have hit the post, no score, move on. Do you think the peno should have been retaken? Cluxton was off his line. Htaem (Meath) - Posts: 8657 - 01/09/2019 17:56:45 2231341 Link 3 |
Thought Kerry's tactics in the last 10 minutes of the game cost them the match. With an extra man they looked dangerous when they got into the Dublin half and instead they played the game in their own half, invited Dublin onto them and paid the price. If you're accustomed to watching soccer, it probably was an enjoyable game - form a blanket, keep possession and get into a scoring position, that's about the sum of it. Even the so-called skillful players couldn't score from 30 yards.

The next team to beat Dublin in championship will be the same team that beat them on the 31st of August 2014. (different personnel of course LOL)

add in the cynical fouling in the middle third, and the diving looking for frees and going down injured to stop momentum of other team...but then again its no surprise to some of us that dublin and kerry are just as cynical as everyone else...they are both just better at it than everyone else

Ref got penalty wrong but sending off Cooper right decision. Crossgaa (Mayo) - Posts: 553 - 01/09/2019 18:02:34 2231352 Link 0 |
Hopefully they'll learn from it they didnt have the bottle to go for it. They seemed to be confused as to whether they should hold on to the lead or go for it. 1 point lead with 9 mins to go they really should have continued attacking Let's all be gratful to both teams for what was a very entertaining all ireland final. We used to take them for granted galwayfball (Galway) - Posts: 1678 - 01/09/2019 18:02:57 2231353 Link 0 |
...the 2016 and 2017 finals were well ahead of today...long kick passing?...all we witnessed was aimless kicking when it did happen...as i say lots of cynical fouling, 14 men behind the ball were the order of the day

Cooper could have been gone earlier. Fouled many times before the second yellow. I think Brogan would have made the difference had he been there? I wonder will Gavin question his decisions? The sultan of Marino added nothing. greysoil (Monaghan) - Posts: 965 - 01/09/2019 18:05:10 2231357 Link 1 |
This is spot on. Kerry should have at least pushed to go 2 up to force Dublins hand.

Don't think it was a penalty but the 1 not given in the 2nd half I think it was O'Shea was 1. Just saying about HawkEye that normally when the ball is tracking inside the post it's a point, just an observation. I don't know the ins & outs of it, was just observation.
