Season Tickets

(Oldest Posts First)

What's the general opinion of renewing the seasons tickets for next year. Disillusioned by the seating this year, travelling hundreds of miles all year through all weather to games and not being guaranteed seat at this end of the year unless it's Croke Park and then the seats the last few years are very poor. I understand the smaller venues don't have big stands but beginning to wonder what reason you would renew for 2020 ?

Only of any use if you get to an All-Ireland.

I think the Season Ticket is brilliant. Good seats, good value, very easy to use.

Obviously it's best for counties getting to the latter stages.

And if you are involved at club level you likely get a ticket at that point anyway

If your attendances are over 60% including the All Ireland Final then you are guaranteed a ticket for the All Ireland Final if your team qualifies for it, other than that they are a waste of time.
A few facts,
when you scan your ticket at venues there is no guarantee that it scanned successfully, you have to keep checking the attendance records, if not recorded then you have to contact the season ticket office and as far as they are concerned their system is correct and you are lying, takes days to finally sort it out if you are lucky, a simple text message or email immediately after scanning from season ticket office would be proof that it scanned correctly before you left the turnstile area.
You are guaranteed a seat in the main stand! No you are not when it's full it's full, tough if you miss out
With the amount of games in such a short season they want their money a few days after the last match but for the super 8s round 2 in Croke Park they wanted their money the monday after round 1 matches, no chance for people to gather a few quid or even get home after a long journey, if you miss a payment it is classed as an 'opt out' if it happens a 2nd time or your opt out has already been used your season ticket will be cancelled
League matches and round 1 of the provincial championship is free, yes that is correct but with 7 league games 15 euro each and 1st provincial championship game would cost around 120-130 euro, that's the price of the season ticket
Tickets for round 2 and 3 of super 8s could be bought in shops days before season ticket holders or clubs got the chance to buy
If your team has a chance of winning Sam or Liam and you enjoy going to every game then yes season tickets are a great idea but if the team will only get a few rounds in championship then buying off the club or in shops is the best option, plenty of season ticket holders are complaining about them, the office, scanning issues, where seated, the attendance records. If I had the chance again I wouldn't have bought a Croke Park season ticket and instead I would have bought a Cairde Maigh Eo (Mayo Co Board) season ticket, no need for attendance records, once you buy the ticket you are guaranteed a final ticket if Mayo make it there

There's a lot of valid points there and its hard to argue against any of them. There's no doubt but that the season ticket isn't without its hitches. I just think its worth the money to i) be guaranteed a ticket for all the games, ii) takes the hassle out of chasing an AI ticket, iii) you're guaranteed to sit with the other people on your ticket in Croke Park (doesn't apply in most other venues, though not an issue if you arrive in plenty of time) and iv) is good value for money if you attend most of the games.

I've had the season ticket for years and only twice I've had a problem with scanning. First was sorted out in 5 mins. The second I was already at over 80% so didn't make a difference.

You can see the madness today at ticket.ie and supervalu's, q's For hours and systems crashing, stress, poor seats when you finally get a ticket. I know people who have taken a day of work and they are in a q on tickets.ie since 10 this morning. I'm sitting here with no worries knowing mine are waiting to be printed and are going to be good seats.

Value wise, someone worked it out in a previous thread and said they saved between 15 and 36 euro each year. Not bad. If a went to a shop and someone offered me 36 euro discount I'd be happy enough.

Another thing I like about the season ticket is you are in a square of fellow supporters.
During the Cork vs Tyrone game the attendance was small overall but in my square the atmosphere was great, plenty of cheering etc.

I think some people are expecting a season ticket to cost 50 euro. The GAA run a business, they need to make money to pump into grassroots etc.

A bit of typical Irish negativity going on here as usual. Look at the positives instead of the negatives

Yep have a hurling season ticket and has been great , seats are generally good, except parnell park this year where we were all in terrace, no scramble for final tickets either. Things could be improved like getting a receipt/text when ticket is scanned but more positives than negatives for me.

Think it is great value too & juveniles love to have their own season ticket. Seating configurations don't bother me to be honest.
