Replying To Wally:  "Does everyone agree that the GAA gives people from certain counties unfair criticism or support.

By this I mean that as GAA followers our opinions are often screwed towards our personal experiences of meeting certain fans from different counties at football/hurling matches.

It's quite ridiculous really.

Personally I cant stand Meath supporters but it has given me an unfair opinion of the county as a whole. I have worked with Meath people and visited the county for work and holiday purposes and have always have a very enjoyable time and the people have been great craic and very welcoming. Yet I never want Meath to do well in football as I have had so many bad experiences with certain sections of their support. I know this is not representative of the entire county but I just cant help it.

On the contrary I know a lot of people on here hate the Dublins supporters but I couldn't speak higher of them as I have always had a fantastic time at Dubs games and their fans have been so friendly towards my friends and family. Yet I know that they have some bad eggs just like every other county.

Interesting isn't it."
Yea it is strange. Feel the exact same way about Tyrone fans! And I've met some decent Tyrone folk outside of GAA but at any games with yee I've definitely encountered some of the worst fans...

I have never met many non Ulster people as not many people in Derry go to away games or home games either for that matter. My great grandmother and great aunt were from Mayo and i've never even been in Connaught, I think maybe the border or maybe poor public transport has caused a social divide between the border, I researched recently that to go to Mayo you have to get a bus to Dublin first.

I should also add that my father often has said how good the Dublin fans were in 1993 after Derry beat them in semi final, they gave the team a round of applause or something. The only bad encounters with fans I have witnessed was Tyrone and Armagh, Armagh were a very rowdy bunch in early 2000s from what i remember, I was afraid of them as a young fellow.

I see there is a bus from Enniskillen to the area of north Mayo I would want to go to but I think driving there would be better, the only problem is that I am wary of driving across the border due to the speed limits, I can barely see the tiny KM markings on my cars speedometer, it is ok if you are driving with cars in front of you but if you are alone on a road you could easily drive over the limit.

Me? I had a big bet on Mayo to win that day and I watched in my house, I remember when Mayo scored the goal and I had to hide my delight from my family and then Derry scored a goal which ripped my heart out and lost be over £200, that was when I was a gambling addict. I lost over £400 when Donegal beat Dublin in 2014.

I remember well the welcome Derry supporters gave us for a qualifier game in 2007 in Celtic Park. Proper genuine friendly supporters. It was raining and some were inviting Mayo supporters to get in under their umbrellas. Something I'll never forget.

As someone alluded to earlier every County has their idiots. I would do gates at a lot of matches around the country and have met a lot of great fans from many counties including Donegal.
Like someone also said it's usually your bad experiences that stick with you the most and unfortunately I have had a couple of really bad experiences with Donegal fans. The worst was in 2012 after giving us a real beating in Ballybofey where myself and my family along with other Derry supporters were subjected to a number of unsavoury people in Green and Gold ( some young and some not so young ) telling us in no uncertain terms to get back to Londonderry but not as nicely as that.
From a working perspective you normally get abuse from fans about admission prices ( which to all of you out there has nothing to do with the volunteer ticket sellers and gate men ) but last year this went to a new level when Dublin visited Omagh when there were not enough seats for all the season ticket holders and some of the vitriol from a section of Tyrone supporters who believed it was our fault they couldn't get a seat in "Their" ground was savage.

I was at that game, Derry have been on the decline ever since plus Celtic Park barely is used nowadays, they use the training ground for most games now, probably because it is near the middle of the county but it still doesn't entice many people to go.

Donegal has long been my favourite away day for the league. Always make a weekend of it and you wouldn't get a friendlier welcome anywhere else. Love the place and the people. As for Tyrone fans getting lots of stick in Ulster, I've always liked them too and love the craic when we play them.
