Hill 16 - No Students Or Juveniles

(Oldest Posts First)

Looking at this weekends hurling and the Semi finals coming up is it the case that there is no juvenile or student tickets for hill 16 ??
All along definitely from a limerick point of view 15-22 year olds have all been going to terrace , is it now the case that all these young people ( the future of the GAA ) are been forced to pay full adult price of 35 Euro ??? A 15 year old could have been on the terrace for Munster final for 5 euro which was excellent value but now they would be asked to pay 7 times more to go on Croke Park terrace ??
Seems very greedy and unfair to younger people who more than likely want to be on hill 16 than seating in davin stand

Its 30 euro for a terrace ticket, 40 for a stand ticket for the games on Sunday.

That's 3 games, if you choose to go in for the three games, for max 40 euro per person, including 2 hurling Quarter finals involving Tipperary, Cork, Kilkenny (3 of the biggest sides traditionally) and Laois who will be playing their first Liam McCarthy QF in years. That's brilliant value when you throw into the mix you've a minor game

There is a 10 euro concession for students/OAP's for the Cusack and Canal ends, and if you want to go to the hill, youll pay the same price as you would if you were getting a student/OAP rate in the seated area.

And the semi final is also smashing value at 35 euro a ticket.

The value this weekend is probably the best value for money that youll get across all sporting occasions in the country and yet there is a serious sense of entitlement when it comes to GAA matches that you should be paying next to nothing to get in. It doesn't cost nothing to stage games in Croke park where you have staff to pay.

I don't think its greedy at all, you can have a justified go at the GAA for many reasons, but the money you pay for a match ticket especially at this stage of proceedings isn't one in my opinion.

No kids can still buy stand tickets for a fiver. Students can buy a lower cusack ticket and get €10 back when entering through a certain gate. So their ticket won't be more expensive then a hill ticket.

Welcome to croker where the hill is exclusively for the dubs. Anyway a fiver a head won't go very far for the money grabbers in croke Park....but that is excellent value. With croker only been full for all ireland final day the last few years they should really be pushing to get younger people through the gates.

Exclusively How? Anyone from any county can buy a hill ticket when it's open.

I've no problem paying 50 for myself but those who have 2 or 3 teenagers mad to go on the terrace it can make it an expensive day for a family . If there are juvenile tickets for davin stand why not for hill 16 , equally why shouldn't there be student hill tickets for 25 ?

I don't think kids should be on any terrace, how will they see when it's full

It can make it expensive but then the organisation doesn't run on air and they're well within their rights to charge everyone the same amount across the board so the fact there are oap and juvenile tickets for 2 areas of the ground is to be commended.

I dont mean to sound bad but, if a family of 5 cant afford to go, that's not Croke parks fault. They have to pay their staff members, groundsmen, bills etc just like the rest of us. The GAA are not a charity. Its unfortunate if people cant afford it, but If I cant afford a brand new Ferrari, Ferrari aren't going to lower their price for me so why expect the GAA to lower the price of tickets especially when we arent being charged extortionate rates as it is.

30-40 euro is savage value into a sporting arena like croke park for 3 games on Sunday.

While the tickets are on open sale I'm sure we've all heard stories of the one or two ones who decided to brave the Dublin crowd on the hill only to be subject to dogs abuse from the boys in blue, in some cases I've heard of it has definitely been treatment that would warrant removal from any other section of croke park. Majority of Dublin supporters are A1 but there are plenty of yobbos that show up for the hill particularly later in championship.
So yes its not exclusive so long as you're fine with having banana skins, empty cans and rubbish in general fired at you accompanied by plenty of coarse language to boot.

There are Dubs on the hill who will give you dogs abuse but there's always far more who are sound and would stick up for you if. So unless you go onto the hill looking for trouble there's really nothing to worry about. I believe things were very different back in the 80's.

Clearly spoken like a man who has never been next to near Hill 16, more rural myths.

Different times alright. Meath fans used to have a particular song about a Dublin forward of asian origin for example, back in the 90s. Thankfully those days are gone. Mayo outnumbered the Dubs on the Hill the last time the sides met in the final. Like all counties the vast amount of fans are fine. You'll always get a couple of drunk idiots at every game but the Hill is great craic and open to all.

I'll let you guess who owns this account. It's been doing the rounds all day having cracks at the Dubs on various threads.

Personally as a Leitrim man no I haven't had to be on it to experience things first hand but have plenty of friends and relations from across the country who have made it very clear it is a far from welcoming place, as Jack_Goff said there are Dubs who will stick up for you when the other crowd get carried away abusing anyone from outside Dublin.

But in reality who is going to take the risk to buy tickets when they could end up relying on others to stick up for them to avoid getting abuse? Theres no point pretending Hill 16 is anything other than Dublin only when Dublin are playing , as your own chant says.

I'm not trying to tar a whole support with one brush by any means, if you got a gathering of that size and with the same history behind it on hill 16 from any part of the country there is a fair chance youd end up with a similar situation, just no need to pretend that people from other counties are welcome there. As I and Jack_Goff have said, plenty of good dub supporters, some of the best in the country, just enough of idiots to ruin the day for others.

I take it theres a poster on the forums you've taken issue with as this is the second reference you've made that I'm a burner account for them. I can assure you I'm my own account and haven't been on here before, I'm not intentionally making cracks at the dubs, just saying what my opinion is and what ive heard from others, the same as anyone else on here.

The idea that so called yobs of Dublin on the hill are so food conscious that they're bringing fruit to a match

I think you may be generalising just a tad. I have worked as a steward on the hill for a number of finals in both codes. I would say the worsy behaviour i have seen was from the 15-17yr old groups up from the country that have been loaded before throw in, fighting, abuse towards everyone and vomitting of course. But don't let the truth get in the way of your bigotry towards Dublin support.

Well Dublin fans still have a song about rather being from a country in the middle east then meath. Was sang in the 90's too.
