Don't think your being too harsh, considering we haven't beaten any of the big 3 since 2008. Tyrone have only beaten teams they where expected to beat (except for Donegal last year). Which in a way Harte and the team deserve massive credit for, as Tyrone rarely seem to get beat by the underdog. Saturday was their 31st qualifier win, with 1 draw and 4 defeats. I'm pretty undecided this year aswell, Tyrone do have momentum, they have won 5 games this year already but this Roscommon game is the biggest yet imo. Its going to be a completely different match than last year, Dr Hyde could make the difference. Nice to see the 'Come out ye black and tans' getting another run on the BBC again this week. To be fair, Roscommon went to sleep for 15 mins against Galway. Up to that they were level and they destroyed them in 2nd half so it wasn't just about Galway collapsing

More power to them. Parades always conveniently arranged to coincide with mass numbers of GAA supporters going through there after games.

Except Donegal this year you mean. Last year the bookies had us evens as far as i remember. This year, you guys were red hot favorites.

Yeah look it shouldn't have happened, ignore the comments on FB and twitter etc because they are childish and ignorant. There was outrage after the Northern Ireland fans singing songs in Belfast before NI game so we cant be two faced and not say its wrong. Now the two incidents were different to be fair but along the same lines. However certain elements are trying to make a bigger thing of it for political or point scoring The_Fridge (Tyrone) - Posts: 2087 - 09/07/2019 16:10:05 2208521 Link 1 |
Roscommon have some serious talent and I would argue more natural ability than the Tyrone team. Gator (Monaghan) - Posts: 238 - 09/07/2019 16:19:55 2208527 Link 0 |
Thanks Fridge. I was a wee bit disappointed as always hoping that we can move on. As a Donegal poster already pointed out, the timing of the flute recital was probably not a coincidence. Would love to get to a place where each tradition had an appreciation of the other. Probably not going to get much better between now? October 31 & beyond unfortunately

I look at it differently from the bookies to be fair. From my point of view, I find it very difficult to make Donegal or Tyrone favourites when they play each other, in the past 10 years every game has been too close to call. Id be very surprised if you even considered us red hot favourites this year.

They shouldn't have apologised either as far as I'm concerned.

They'll be expected to sing a few bars of 'Men of Roscommon' in the Hyde on Saturday so they were getting in some practice.

Interesting one. I expect Roscommon to give a very good account of themselves or maybe even sneak the win. realdub (Dublin) - Posts: 8571 - 09/07/2019 18:55:01 2208591 Link 5 |
The Hyde isn't a fortress for Roscommon unfortunately so it'll need a full house and vociferous fans which should happen. Ok So the league isn't a good indicator but Roscommon were not going to be bullied by Tyrone that day and if Ultan Harney hadn't had a rush of blood to the head in the last second of that game, Roscommon would have taken a major scalp and be playing Division One again next year. (you may recall his charge on the keeper after we had been awarded a free right in front of the posts and the ref threw up the ball). Your version of the harney incident in the league game if as far out as a lighthouse but Im not going into that now, The hyde is one of the biggest pitches in the country and this will suit rossies as a lot of their play comes from the wings. Tyrones blanket may be stretched a bit so there will be space as ros will not play a narrow game like Cavan and kildare did. I expect this game to go down to the wire, I just hope Ros come out the right side. We are due one against Tyrone. Hon the Rossies. giveballaghback (Roscommon) - Posts: 296 - 09/07/2019 20:52:11 2208649 Link 0 |
I presume you are replying to me in your post? If so, then please DO get into the Harney comment I made rather than hide behind some vague comment. Roscommon won a free just outside the penalty area in front of goal and Ultan Harney came charging in on the keeper after the whistle had blown. The referee cancelled the free and threw up the ball thus denying Roscommon and near certain victory since it was the last play of the game and the scores were level at the time. Please correct any inaccuracy that justifies me being "as far off as a lighthouse"

This is a great match up for both teams. For Tyrone it is better than going to play Kerry or Donegal away and they must win if they want to reach the semi-final. Like last year Tyrone are kicking on the more games they play and with a good spread of scores I expect them to win by four points. Deluding yourself. It was a total collapse. Two points with wind advantage? Condorman (Dublin) - Posts: 983 - 09/07/2019 22:52:58 2208751 Link 0 |
Think you should look at that Harney incident again , keepers ( Morgan ) was the one who charged in. It used to be the case that the third man got a red card which Morgan should have got for going down with his knees on an a player. Harney just pushed him off . The powers that be said the referee (Mooney)made the right decision after the game . But how many league or championship games did he get scene then? 0.

Roscommon have a right chance. Underrated and fired up away to ourselves and Galway Anthony Cunningham had them fighting to the end with an intensity the opposition couldn't match and smart use of the bench. They won't be found wanting in the physical encounters with Tyrone. The Daly brothers sure to give the Ulster men an early welcome. Still underdogs, which Cunningham will use to rev them up, and at home in front of a packed Hyde jammed with partisan support. Tyrone don't want to take this as lightly as some pundits anticipate for the away win. Should be a cracker of a game. GreenandRed (Mayo) - Posts: 7290 - 10/07/2019 10:28:04 2208893 Link 2 |
